The Fred Thompson Meltdown Continues
JoshuaPundit ^ | 7/30/07 | Freedom Fighter

Posted on 07/30/2007 12:59:48 PM PDT by pissant

As more and more of his potential supporters learn about Fred Thompson's choice of open borders advocate and pro-Islamist ex-senator and lobbyist Spencer Abraham as his campaign manager, Thompson's luster as th egreat GOP savior has begun to dim precipitously.

Latest to weigh in are Dymphna at Gates of Vienna, Elaine at Aaron's Rod ( who removed all the Blogs For Fred links to her site) and Deb at Right Truth.

And Michelle Malkin also did a short bit with Laura Ingraham on her national show.

As I said in my piece, no one who's serious about winning the War Against Jihad would want a tool like Abraham anywhere near him.Either Thompson was ignorant about Abraham's background, which means he lacks the judgment to be president, or he knew about it and appointed Abraham anyway...which means that no one who's serious about fighting this war or controlling the borders should remotely consider supporting him.

I think we're done with stealth candidates who talk the talk but don't walk the walk.

I doubt Duncan Hunter would have hired him as an errand boy.
I suspect you are correct as anyone polling with a --, **, 1, 2, 3% beside their name don't have the money nor organization to hire the top people.

How much money does that Hunter fellar have now?..... A couple hundred thousand?.... He's not in the show for the long run at his rate of financing.

If Fred (whom I support) doesn't get rid of Spencer Abraham, he won't last long enough to even announce.

I dont really like any of them, not a one. Either their politics are mushy PC or theyre tin-eared... Last time it was this bad was probably 1992, which might have been worse, but I doubt it.

Um, no.

Again, the CFR is like “Hardball”

It’s a forum for policy debates; nothing more, nothing less.

Posting facts or opinion articles (from OTHERS) are not exactly “pissing” on FRed or his followers. Trashing the messenger instead of the message in the article isn’t a way to winning anyone over either.

Better to get these issues out in the open now and deal with them, otherwise we can be stuck with a repeat of an OPEN BORDERS, PRO-AMNESTY candidate (most of the current GOP field of candidates) when it’s too late and he’s the nominee. That’s what a PRIMARY is for, isn’t it?

Or in a few years, we can be sitting here griping about the same stuff we do now about George Bush.

Not worth the battle. If Fred is going to be the protected guy for now, so be it. It will change.

I forgot to ask Mr. A last nite, but I did this morning. He had NEVER heard of him until 3 days ago when he heard Rush mention him in passing along with a number of other candidates.

He’s only well-known among a few here and there who have the main issue of immigration.

the main issue to me is winning in ‘08 and I think Fred’s the Man!

Yeah, Mr. “you’re a homo”. Buzz off.

Oh...am I getting to you? So much for "flipping us like pancakes". What a RIDICULOUS comment.

Maybe if I hang out on these FRed threads more often, if I study hard, keep practicing, then one day, I too could learn to “debate” JUST like Fred does...

Well, this is my last Fred thread for a while anyhow, so you are welcome to practice on this one. Of course, the posse will be along anytime now.

IIRC, Fred won that election, didn’t he?
Apparently his debating skills exposed his opponent for the liar he was.
Why would you think that’s a negative?

Laura: Well, and this obviously leads to the question, when Spence Abraham is the acting campaign manager—I guess he’s acting because he’s not officially running yet—

Michelle: Right.

Laura: What does that, what does that tell you about Thompson, about what you think he will do or what he will prioritize when it comes to these terror and terrorist enforcement related issues? I mean, does it really give you cause for concern about Thomspon or is it just a minor cause for concern?

Michelle: Um, I think, I think its—its—its very troubling, because what it says is, that, basically although he’s saying the right things—I mean, I see all of the op-eds, I see the blog posts, um, I see the red meat speeches that, that he’s giving that grassroots conservatives can cheer because he understands, he speaks the language of immigration enforcement—but look at the kind of people he’s entrusting in these high positions in his campaign. They are people who have stood for and acted for the status quo on immigration enforcement for more than, you know, two decades. And, you know, that’s the problem. Unfortunately, we’ve got second tier candidates who have spent their lives putting the pedal to the metal. You’ve got Duncan Hunter—

Laura: Oh, he’s great—

Michelle: and Tom Tancredo

Laura: I love—I like both of them. I love Duncan Hunter.

Michelle: Ya. And these guys get it, and they’re not just saying it because its what we want to hear. You know, they operationally understand what needs to be done. And I want Fred Thompson to be that kind of candidate. I just have grave doubts that he is.
