Why Bush Cannot Be Honest About Muslims
From Sea to Shining Sea ^ | 6/29/07 | Purple Mountains

Conservative blogs and some talk show hosts are bashing President Bush for speaking to a Muslim group on Wednesday and for announcing the appointment of a representative to an international Muslim organization. Since 9/11, Bush has consistently maintained that Islamic terrorism is limited to a relatively small number of radicals, and that almost all Muslims are peaceful people who, in the USA at least, only want for their children the same things that everyone else does.

My position on this is a little complicated.

I have thought this for a long time, and get frustrated with those who want to criticize him for his position.

The Islamic radicals want all of Islam to rise up, and it is this slight of hand policy that helps us from having to confront all of Islam at once........which would be truly gruesome.

He is still doing the right thing with this war, in spite of mistakes and despite all his critics.

I am furious with George Bush, but I do think he did the right thing with this War Against Radical Islamists.

The problem is that, although I think it started out great - somewhere along the way (I remember it being right after those terrorists-wearing-underwear-on-their-heads photos and the gitmo torture allegations) - they started running it as a politically correct war & we've been spinning our wheels ever since. The media won that battle big-time & set us back. There needs to be a dramatic change in tactics for this war to be won.

Me too.

I think Petraeus is the change we need. We shall see, the Dems want to paint this as lost even if we begin to win.

Big political problem, and what Bush did with the immi thing just made him toast with most of us........I hope for the best, but now expect it not to go that way.
