I think Fred will choose someone who is Black simply because Hillary is likely to pick Obama. I disagree that we will face a Clinton/Obama ticket simply because while Obama may be many things, stupid isn't one of them. He knows that with Clinton's negatives she has to be considered somewhat of a long shot to win. If she does then he enters 2012 without the baggage of being the former second-banana on a losing ticket, status that hasn't done Lieberman or Edwards a whole lot of good. Should Clinton win the nomination then I think Obama will thank her very much for her offer but respectfully decline. Then he'll go out and campaign his ass off for her so that should she lose then he can't be blamed for it. If she does lose then he's positioned to run in 2012 as an experienced Senator. If she wins then it's 2016 and he's no worse off than if he had taken the Veep spot. Either way he's probably Senator for Life from Illinois so he doesn't have to sweat his re-election campaigns. He can pretty much phone it in and spend a lot of time campaigning for others and building up Brownie points. Every other Democrat candidate realizes that it's now or never for them. Obama is the only one with time.

Zell would be awesome and so would J.C. Watts but they're Southerners like Fred. I'd be happy with either but how about Thomas Sowell of Stanford U. in California? He is a brilliant Economist and Black Conservative.

Well, I take issue with the, oft repeated, "he's only well known because he's an actor" line.
I haven't ever seen one of his movies, except the skit I just received..."The Last Best Chance". The one time I caught a glimpse of him on L&O, we switched it off...L&O isn't L&O for us, without Lenny.
Most of the people I try to hawk FRed to, don't even know who he is until I mention "Red October", then they say..."Oh, yeah, that guy, he's a politician?"
So, please, stop with the condescending crap, and judge FRed on his merits, and history, as a politician and government servant, not on his popularity as an actor.
Thank you. BTW, I would like to see JC Watts as FRed's VP selection, even though in all honesty, it's way too soon to get that "deep in the woods"
tm FDT.

He is a brilliant, but I doubt that he would be interested. An interesting possibility though.

A Thompson - Steele ticket would be a formidable one, IMO That sir is the right answer, or perhaps a Thompson- Herman Cain ticket. Both are good men, and you would not be going wrong with either one.

Now, we're a long way away from this point yet, because we don't know which factors would be most important, but in Thompson's case, the most likely factors from the above list seem to be (again, in no particular order): geographical balance, demographic balance, capable backup, and heir apparent. Agreed. I think it will be Tim Pawlenty, who could very likely bring at least MN with him, and possibly bring a couple other midwestern states as well.

“Sowell would be brilliant as Secretary of Education.”
If I remember right, he was offered that position in the Reagan Administration and declined when he realized that the administration had no intention of following through on its campaign pledge to eliminate the Department of Education.
