self | June 3, 2007 | self

Here’s RobFromGa’s “live”blog of Fred’s Richmond speech last night from the CSPAN replay. The crowd was enthusiastic and Fred sounded strong and energetic.
#
Fred Coming up now...
#
Very vibrant looking, very energetic...
#
Introductory remarks, small jokes, crowd is very responsive, thanking George Allen, John Warner...
#
talking about his work in the cause of Federalism
#
enjoyed time since the Senate, and in the Senate (sometimes), after 8 years in WASH longed for sincerity of Hollywood
#
Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee
Law and Order
bit down politically right now, we are on the comeback trail tonite starting right here, what better place to start than right here in the Commonwealth!
#
take us from the Statehouse to the Whitehouse
Hunt for a Red November
#
the way I live my life
to leave the country to the next generation better...
early days: family, job and hope...
#
always interested in government and ideas, idea that rights didn't come from govt, with the Fed given some rights, others to states and people
#
references Conscience of a Conservative by Goldwater
#
what he said rang like a churchbell on a clear night
#
Fred was hooked, started the Young Republican group in middle TN
#
started law practice, started to work for strong limited government based on market economy and common sense
#
taxes low, freedom and personal responsibility high
#
the country need Repub party today becasue:
Islamic Funds want nuke cloud over US city
challenge of global economy
#
need educational system to support us in doing the things that we need to be successful
better health, people living longer causes challenge to entitlement programs
unsustainable situation
need to do things diffferently
and more together as a nation,
#
are we more together, debate in Congress is what our surrender date is going to be?
Dems discuss a phony war,
#
many people in world #1 target is USA, they have a one hundred year plan
#
our timeframe is to the next election
#
Fred's laying out AlQaeda's plan, including JFK plot this afternoon-- a success story for US
#
they were home-grown terrorists, citizens
#
the US must remain strong
#
rebuild and transform military, human intelligence capabilities
Democracies don't like war, so they are slow to get out of the starting gate,
We need to rally our allies, still many friends around world,
need to convince them that this is a battle between forces of civilization and forces of evil, and we need to choose sides
current 4% too low spending on military, historically
#
hitting on estate tax and sunset in 2010, don't spend that new years with your kids
#
wants lower tax rates, fast growth, higher revenues
Dems not about revenue its about redistributing, need bigger pie
#
our biggest squabbling is reserved for fights over Judiciary
one of proudest moments was fighting for Chief Justice John Roberts
#
fights over Judges so big because they can change the Constitution just like that
and their opponents need to go through 2/3 amendment process to overturn it
#
need strong independent Judiciary
not act like politicians
American people look at all of this see govt divided
political interest ahead of welfare of country
cynicism
disconnect right now like I've never seen- immigration bill
#
talking about 1986, we traded amnesty for border security
got amnesty
didn't get security
same people Kennedy want to do it again, fool me once, fool me twice
Secure Border before anything else
[loud standing O]
#
bill says security comes first
people dont care about piece of paper
SECURE THE BORDER
it is also a national security issue
#
we are a nation of compassion, of immigrants
we know value of immigrants,
not just economic benefits
strength, variety, hard work,
but this is our home, and we get tot decide who comes into our home! (loud o)
#
country is looking for Leadership
came to DC to drain swamp, ended up playing with the alligators
gotta remember why we're doing what we're doing
#
but we cant lead without winning elections
gonna form a new coalition
turn the cynicism around
we're a little bit down right now in this country
no false optimism
my daddy said: a man who smiles all the time is a man who doesn't know what is going on
#
US a beacon of hope,
now it is our turn
put aside petty differences and come together
we won Cold War because we had great leaders who stuck by first principals.
Thanks
FRED OUT!

Thanks, I thought Fred was excellent last night.

I think that we show how much deeper or bench is compared with the Dems.

IT WAS AWESOME!!

I think he needs a bit more time to get back into the swing, and it sounds like he has a cold, but I loved it.
