The GOP was in total shambles in the wake of Watergate and then Reagan totally reshaped the party for the better.

..continuing along your line of thought, I do not think that the Republican Party has to die--but it will take a Reaganesque figure to save it.

It shouldn't be a mystery who I think that is ; - )
