I think southerners are still smart enough to vote for the more conservative option. After all, the Democrats nominating a pro-death penalty putative centrist in 1992 didn't exactly put Massachusetts into play for the Republicans.

We need a strong supporter of real science and a strong voice against the global warming religion to beat Al Gore, and Rudy is pro-manmande-global-warming hysteria. That debate would have Rudy agreeing with Gore on most issues.
