So, what do you think? Is it what you expected?

I was surprised at the amount of Interest we pay to borrow money to run our country. About one-quarter of every dollar goes to military. Didn't realize health care was so high.

Military spending was 8 cents per dollar under Reagan, moved to 4 cents under Clinton. I heard it is around 5 cents per dollar now so I don’t see the graph as true.

Shall we assume “other” is the full paid salaried of retired government hacks paid to do nothing.

I see a lot of entitlement programs with no Constitutional basis. Military spending is part of what the govt. has to do, though.

That 12 cent per dollar “other” category just leaps off the page.

I wonder what “other” is. I probably don’t want to know.

These are pinkos who leave out SS & Medicare spending to make the military budget look inflated.

The picture also looks a lot different if you include state and local taxes in the total, where it will become evident how much you are being robbed blind by state and local government.

I’m mixed on this. Although I’m buoyed to think that a good chunk of my money is going towards bombs and warplanes, I don’t think that is true because I’ve seen other graphs recently that show health taking over military.

501(c)3-but if you go to the ‘NPP publications’ section of their site, their anti-military agenda is no secret.

Let me highlight a little point that is skimmed over:

This publication shows how the median income family's income tax dollars

Oops. It looks like hundreds of billions of Social Security and Medicare tax dollars just got swept under the rug.

Nothing like ignoring the 15.3% of your income which disappears right away. I wonder why this organization just ignored the largest part of the federal budget.

This is another anti-military web site. With such bias you cannot take the information as accurate.

I guess the proprietors of the website are not fans of military expenditures.

Where Do Your Tax Dollars go?

I can only vote for those who don’t perfer raising the rates,
can’t do nothing about the spending.
Though the ‘Health’ dollars are already there,
and soon to go up exponentially thanks to
my Gov.Pawlenty.

I was surprised, too. Are sure it was only 8 cents under Reagan? Here's what the notes say:

Past and current military spending totals 40 cents

Military spending accounted for 27 cents of every income tax dollar paid. But that only tells part of the story. At least nine cents of every federal income tax dollar paid today can be attributed to borrowing to pay for past wars and military build-ups. On top of that, disability payments, health care and other benefits accrued to veterans make up a little over three cents of the federal income tax dollar.

Since the war began, Congress has appropriated or spent nearly half a trillion dollars on the Iraq War alone. Like other wars before it, this one is also deficit financed, which means hundreds of billions of dollars more in interest payments. Veterans’ disability payments and health care costs of the many, permanently-disabled soldiers will also add hundreds of billions over the coming years.
