Mayor Giuliani had to know this was coming. He's enjoyed a great window of "benefit of the doubt" time with conservatives for a few months now. But liberal Rudy is starting to show - and its just not pretty. There is a lot of time even now for the primary process to work its magic and I just increasingly am realizing that I can not - as a faithful, life long conservative vote for the former Mayor of my city.
And don't talk to me about the general election and "Hillary vs. whoever" yet - THAT will be a different election. Right now we are watching the primary race. This should be the time where we hassle these wannabes as much as possible so that we get to the essence of who they are.
The mayor's supporters want to talk about his toughness on terror. Which is fine. Given his record against crime in NYC, I think they may have a point. But I want a President who will also be tough against liberalism. I want a President who will stand up to Congress. I want a President to be tough about the types of judges he puts on the bench. I want a man of tough resilient character who deals with his domestic agenda and treats people with all that character entails.

UMMM. That's exactly backwards. The system is set up so that we get a period of time to vet the candidates. Bad mouth and antagonize now until your hearts content. Once we have a nominee that's the time to STOP bad mouthing and start supporting our candidate. Which is what I plan to do..unless the candidate is Rudy. I can't support him under any circumstances.
Great line. Best of the day.
That line jumped out at me too. I'm going to steal it for my tagline. ;)
NOW IS THE TIME to ask questions and check voting records. If not now, when?
September 2008?
A lot of people here vow to stay home out of principle rather than vote for Rudy, I hope they feel that great big rush of pride when Hillary or Obama or whoever sign us on to Kyoto, carbon offsets, socialized medicine, confiscatory tax rates, free speech zones, abortion on demand, the homosexaul agenda, failing public schools yadda, yadda, yadda. "...but at least I didn't vote for a RINO..."
Pat yourselves on the back and look loving at your reflection when Hitlery has the power of the patriot act and a democratic congress in her hands. They're already trying to make conservative ideals illegal, remove any impediments from their path and we will watch America go down the toilet. It's tantamount to dining on dog crap rather than beef stew since you couldn't have the filet mignon you wanted.
My point is that I will not go on record tearing all the candidates down and spouting my resolve to not vote for them, because I sure won’t vote for Hillary or Obama. I realize that the Republicans will never nominate any candidate that is pure or perfect enough for some people. Some of the complaints that everyone has about Rudy could also be said about Reagan. Support of abortion, kids that bad mouthed him and divorce were all a part of Reagan’s past. I believe many people on this forum would have written him off (if it had existed then) and we would have missed the greatest president in my lifetime.
I hope McCullough shows more consistency than Farah.
You make no sense. The goal is to put a conservative up as the GOP nominee.
Toughness? How about his first effort to protect the country by picking Bernard Kerik, his crony business partner to head Homeland Security for Bush. Kerik is now facing criminal charges.
Gold star! Or to back up a further step, "Because there's no election in any state for almost a year."
President Hillary wishes to extend a thank you to you!
What is President Hillary's stance on the Second Amendment?
Same position, but I expect it from the Rats.
I would especially never vote for someone phony enough to pretend he is a Republicanwhen he is an authoritarian liberal, gun grabbing, pro-abortion, pro-amnesty, pro-litigation big government knows best, gay rights CRUSADERwho also believes that our tax money should pay for public funding of abortions.
The last thing in the world we need is a LIBERAL attack dog--not to mention his TRAIN WRECK of a personal life.
No thanks.
The analogies between Reagan's flaws and Rudy's are stretched so taut as to be transparent.
1. Abortion. Reagan signed California's abortion law. That's a fact. It's also a fact that Reagan later said that he'd never really thought about abortion before that time...and not many of us had. He also stated, numerous times, that signing that bill was the sorriest thing he ever did and he regretted it for the rest of his life. Rudy on the other hand has been a supporter for unlimited abortion rights for his entire political life and is only now starting to modify some of his positions. But when asked just last week he said that he supports public funding of abortion. Taking MY tax dollars and using that money to pay for the murder of an unborn baby is completely and unalterably unacceptable.
2. Kids that bad mouthed him. Reagan's kids turned against their father because he was a Conservative and they were spoiled hippy brats. Rudy's kids have problems with their dad becasue he is married to the woman that he publicly shacked up with while still married to their mother.
3.Divorce. Ronald Reagan was divorced by his wife...because of his interest in politics and national policy. He didn't cheat on his wife, he's never been accused of womanizing and friends have often remarked at how utterly heart broken he was by the divorce. Rudy, on the other hand has had three wives and numerous affairs and conducted his indiscretions in a public manner that was humiliating to his wife and children. The children that still don't support him and will not spend anytime with his new wife.
I don't think that any of the conservatives on this forum who are having problems accepting Rudy's candidacy would have had any problem supporting Ronald Reagan. I voted for Reagan in 1980 and 1984, I admired him then and I revere him now.
We’re talking about the primaries here. Why bring up the general election?
mea culpa!

That is why I can never vote for Giuliani. I will not vote at all if a ProChoice candidate wins the nomination.
I cannot face God in the afterlife and say that I voted for a baby murderer.
That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want him to win over a Demoncrat, it simply means that I wouldn’t vote for him.
Deep thinker.....Hillary Hillary. Are you indeed an avocado?
