What You Need To Know -Facts About My Cancer (FRED THOMPSON Posts On Red State!)
Red State ^ | 4/11/07 | Fred Thompson

Posted on 04/11/2007 8:33:00 AM PDT by areafiftyone

We have all seen the courageous battle that Elizabeth and John Edwards are fighting, and there are so many others. Fortunately, there are an increasing number of good stories because of the medical advances that have been made. I have friends in politics, some in Congress, some running for President, and others who have successfully dealt with cancer. It is certainly no respecter of persons and totally non-partisan. That point was driven home to me about 2 1/2 years ago when, shortly after a routine physical, I was diagnosed with what the doctors call an indolent lymphoma. Of the 30-plus kinds of lymphoma this is a "good" kind, if there is such a thing.

I have had no illness from it, or even any symptoms. My life expectancy should not be affected. I am in remission, and it is very treatable with drugs if treatment is needed in the future--and with no debilitating side effects.

I am one of the lucky ones. There are many lucky ones today. And for all of our diversity, we share one thing in common--a deep appreciation for the fact that we live in the United States of America and have the best medicine and the best doctors the world has even known.

I believe that the cancer issues will hurt any presidential candidate. It will be brought up for both Rudy and McCain as well.

With all the bashing of the American medical system from the left, with all the stories we hear about how much better they have it in Europe and Canada where they're more "compassionate" and the state takes care of you, it's always good to hear someone who appreciates just how incredible American medicine really is.

With the kind of ideologically driven election this is likely to be, I rather doubt that many voters will cast their vote for President based on which candidate is healthier. If it is an issue, though, I think Thompson can turn it into a positive.

People never seemed to be bothered by the fact that Clinton hid his medical records/history from the public eye.

"I wouldn't be doing this if I wasn't satisfied in my own mind as to the nature of it and the fact that not only will I have an average life span, but in the meantime, I will not be affected in any way by it," Thompson said."

"The American people have a right to know this."

He's in!

Right. They are going to make cancer an issue, when they have both had(have in McCain’s case?) far more lethal forms?

The only one who can stop Fred running is himself. He’s going to have to make that decision. From his interview today I get the drift that he’s letting people know in case he decides to run. I’m not saying its a yes or no because this would be a very good excuse for him if he decides not too. The media has been saying he’s too lazy to run and I didn’t think that was the case. Its a smart move and I would like to see him run.
