		During his first run for the U.S. Senate, Fred Thompson said in an interview to a libertarian Republican newsletter that the ultimate decision to have an abortion "must be made by the woman." The comments were made in the July/August issue of Republican Liberty, the official newsletter of the Republican Liberty Caucus. In the interview, Thompson was asked: "Some conservatives got flustered by your comments on abortion and Roe vs. Wade. Would you like to explain your position on abortion?" Thompson answered: "Government should stay out of it. No public financing. The ultimate decision must be made by the woman.

No matter how you feel about Roe v Wade, the Supreme Court made it a constitutional right. Until that law is overturned by conservative Justices, it is law. No law maker can deny a woman's right to choose. I hate the idea of abortion and would certainly never have had one myself. That is my choice. My daughter had an abortion at the age of 20...she will have to answer to God! I still mourn about that grandchild I will never hold in my arms. However, it was her choice...she knew better to talk with me first! She did not involve me in her decision, but she did not lie about either.

I hope that some day Roe v Wade will be overturned, but until then the law is the law no matter how much it breaks our hearts.

Or maybe you say if we don’t nominate him Hillary will win. Well, my folks always told me I had to go to bed or the boogey man would get me. Rudy Giuliani: “Yes I believe, I believe it is.”

Now if you think sometime around 2000 is too long ago, I can also point you to a video clip where he says, when asked about abortion “My view of the constitution is that you have to leave that ultimate choice to the person”. Meaning, he thinks there really is a right to an abortion in the constitution.

He said that one on March 30th. Of this year. (KUTV interview in Salt Lake City UT)

Compare this to Fred Thompson, who believes there is no such right, and therefore the issue of abortion goes back to the states.

The real issue WRT to presidential race is that rudy believes the “right” to an abortion exists in the constitution, so the possibility of him appointing any judges that disagree with that view is around zero.

Thompson does not need an excuse for being a consistent pro-life vote in the Senate.

The difference is that while in the senate, Thompson had a solid pro-life voting record. He didn’t just “change” yesterday. Every time it counted he came down on the pro life side, which why he was endorsed by a pro life group.
