Fred Thompson in 1994: Let The Woman Decide - Monday, April 09, 2007 @ 3:06:23 PM

During his first run for the U.S. Senate, Fred Thompson said in an interview to a libertarian Republican newsletter that the ultimate decision to have an abortion "must be made by the woman."

The comments were made in the July/August issue of Republican Liberty, the official newsletter of the Republican Liberty Caucus.

In the interview, Thompson was asked: "Some conservatives got flustered by your comments on abortion and Roe vs. Wade. Would you like to explain your position on abortion?"

Thompson answered: "Government should stay out of it. No public financing. The ultimate decision must be made by the woman.

He’s pro-choice.

That's a lie.

Pro-choice is the new conservative.

The pro-abortion rump GOP will do as well as the Whigs.

actually he's NOT!

like me and a LOT of other TRUE conservatives, FT despises the federal GOVERNMENT being INVOLVED in this issue at all.

let the STATES decide.

NO FEDERAL MONEY,

NO "PUBLIC HEATH" STUDIES,

NO FEDERAL INVOLVEMENT,

NO FEDERAL GRANTS.

NOT ONE THIN DIME!

take the $$$$$$$ away & there will be FEW or NO abortions, anywhere. (for the "people involved" it's about the MONEY!!!)

He does not single out the Federal government, he says that government should not be involved.

Then there is this:

"Government should treat its citizens as adults capable of making moral decisions on their own."

How would you deduct from that statement that he believes that the Federal government should treat us like adults, but not the State governments?

"romney and thompson are in the same field, IMHO. they both were pro-choice and are now trying to give the impression they are pro-life."

Which makes them both less honest than Giuliani, who at least does not try to spin his way out of his beliefs.

his SPIN is that he is claiming, as they are, to be a Republican! with their pro-choice stance, they are not. the dishonesty should be another alarm going off for everyone... the question is, do they hear it?

you base premise is FALSE, thus your conclusion (such as it is) is equally BOGUS.

"rudy the RINO" will NOT get my vote, regardless of who the DIMocRAT is.

i'll go fishing that day, if "rudy" is our candidate. fyi, MILLIONS of other CONSERVATIVES will be out fishing that day with me. the national GOP "powerful" should "think on" that FACT.

No federal funding, just immunity to murder an innocent human being!

This statement was followed by a flawless pro-life voting record.

Though I would prefer a return to the states over the status quo, I would venture this: The abortion issue has no more place being decided in the various states than the slavery issue does. Either a fetus is a human and deserves protection under the 14th Amendment or it isn’t and doesn’t. A state should have no kmore right to legalize killing a fetus than it does to legalize buying an African and making him pick cotton.

LOL! I knew you guys would freak out! What are you going to do when Fred’s real Skeletons come out?

Perhaps you should sit down and think about this for a minute. You posted this in post 35. I don't see anybody "freaking out" in posts 2 through 34. What I see is pro-lifers pointing out the difference between these two candidates, and a few insults which, though you shopuldn't have had to endure them, are certainly not remarkable for FR.

To be quite frank, I think it takes a liberal to define "Here's where the two candidates stand" as a freakout. You should think about the libtastic way you're standing up for a supposedly conservative candidate.

I decided on it in 1989, and I haven’t apologized for it since. Never will.
