In the 1960 Presidential Election, John Kennedy “declared” his candidacy in December of 1959 and was elected eleven months later in November of 1960.
These times they are a changin’.

Seems likely to me that all Thompson needs to do is show up in New Hampshire and Iowa and walk away with the nomination. I, personally, will vote for Thompson if he runs. I just hope he picks a VP worthy to follow in his footsteps if something happens to him.

He’s waiting, in vain, for someone to place a crown on his head.

What is he waiting for? Plenty of time.
I think he’s smart to wait a bit, much like Newt is doing.
I’m already sick of hearing about Hillary, Newt, Rudy.......aka the three stooges.
Waiting seems quite “prudent” to me.

“Hoisted by his own petard”
The word remains in modern usage in the phrase to be hoisted by one’s own petard, which means “to be harmed by one’s own plan to harm someone else” or “to fall in one’s own trap”. Shakespeare coined the now proverbial phrase in Hamlet.

Clinton gave some great speeches — I guess you consider him very effective in fighting the terrorists, right?

It’s still very early in the ‘08 Presidential race, and anything, both good and bad, can and will happen. If Fred Thompson does end up officially running for President in ‘08 and then does become the final GOP choice for the Presidency, then I certainly hope that he also chooses Duncan Hunter to be his Vice President-among many fine possibilities for the V.P. position to choose from. This way, the Democrats will be forced to divest a lot of both time and money in California that they would normally spend somewhere else. Most of the present GOP Presidential candidates could become decent cabinet members in a Fred Thompson administration.

The reality, however, is that even the shadow candidacy of Thompson is casting a huge shadow indeed. The online Sean Hannity poll showed Thompson getting, as an unannounced candidate, more votes that all other Republican candidates combined. Fred Thompson, as an unannounced candidate, is winning every straw poll in the South. Fred Thompson, who will soon be visiting with Republican members of Congress to discuss his possible candidacy, has been overwhelmed by senators and congressman who want to talk with him (probably because he is the best chance Republicans have of re-taking Congress.)
