The folks at Communist Party, USA (CPUSA) seem quite pleased over the '06 election results! The following appears on the home page of their website:
"New Times Require Fresh Politics and Flexible Tactics
by Sam Webb, National Chair, 03/30/2007
Main report to the National Committee, CPUSA March 24, 2007
The main focus of this report is the new terrain of struggle. How could it be otherwise? So much is happening, so much is changing, so much is different these are new times!
The Nov. 7, 2006, election was a people's victory. It was a stunning blow to the Bush Administration and the Republican Party, thus creating a far more favorable political terrain in the Congress and the country.
At the time I don't think we knew and how could we to what extent that terrain and the political balance of forces had shifted. Nevertheless, we said that the shift was significant. I don't remember using the term 'turning point,' but the discussion went in that direction..."

Note from LC (exposing the left): United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ) is chaired by a woman named Leslie Cagan. Cagan is a longtime supporter of communist causes, a great admirer of Fidel Castro. She is also the founder and chair of the organization 'Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism (CCDS)'. The CCDS is an old offshoot of CPUSA.
From the United for Peace and Justice home page:
"We Must Seize the Moment; Because of the persistence and hard work of the antiwar movement, the Iraq debate in Congress has shifted from "if" to "when" we pull out of Iraq."
