I am very disappointed that Congress would use an end around the earmark reform bill with billions of dollars of pork to pass this bill. The issue is not whether you support the bill or not, it is about using pet projects paid by tax payers to bribe members of Congress. The reason we are 8.8 trillion dollars in the red and growing is due to this behavior of an out of control congress. This is why I have said in the past the only real reform to help protect our childrens future from irresponsible lawmakers is to eliminate all add on spending to any bill. What do you think?
USATODAY-WASHINGTON After two hours of often impassioned debate, the Democratic-controlled House today narrowly approved the first binding measure to require President Bush to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq by September 2008.The vote was 218 to 212, with one member voting "present." Democrats needed 218 for passage.
To entice support from wavering members, Democratic leaders included in the bill billions of dollars on such unrelated matters as support for spinach growers and peanut storage.
A sad day for patriots.
Earmarks need to be just plain SCRAPPED! This is CRAZY!
This think will never pass the Senate...and for GOD's sake if it does- I sure hope Bush finds his VETO PEN!
"Earmarks" were a big part of Bush's State
of the Union Address. He wants it to stop.
I Just heard a sound bite on Rush's show and he played a clip of the Pres. reaming out the Dems in congress over the pork laden surrender bill.
I just wish W would call them on their defeatist attitude more often, and call it what it is - SURRENDER !
And all the headlines will read: Congress votes to withdraw from Iraq!
"The issue is not whether you support the bill or not, it is about using pet projects paid by tax payers to bribe members of Congress."
Sad that it was has come to this.
Thanks, eee.
I'll miss you Saturday, but will catch up later.
The president did what he should have been doing since day one. Come out and go right to the people and tell them what's what.
That kind of direct communication has been woefully absent and is largely responsible for his continuous wrestling with demrats.
Agreed. Good points, all.
Hey there HC!
I will sooooooooo miss you on Saturday! John will too, no doubt!
BTW-- did I read correctly yesterday- that the link for last Saturday's show is working for you now?
This is a way to get around earmarks....
Thanks for the ping...
Are you guys ever going to get Duncan Hunter or Fred Thompson on your show???
Bush needs a "L.A.R.T. meets Veto Pen" for this one.
It is ironic that the Democrats would use pork in their war on terror. Also very insensitive of them.
