Is Fred Thompson In?
Thats what I heard tonight from a Blue Dog Democrat Congressman who has close ties to some TN GOP members (and who even donated to Thompsons senate races back in the 90s.)
A McCain-Thompson ticket would be unbeatable----
Nah. McCain's done.
I think you're right, but Rudy will stay in the race until Fred wraps it up. I think he'll cut a deal for Attorney General or Homeland Security director in exchange for endorsing him and campaigning for him in blue states and other areas where he's popular.
It's the same thing I believe Newt is really aiming for with this "Will he or won't he?" he's been doing. Waiting for September to announce, there's no way he'll ever raise the money he'll need for Super Duper Tuesday. But he probably already knows that and wants a cabinet spot.
Duncan Hunter for Defense Secretary? :-)
McCain is already falling farther behind Rudy in the polls and more importantly, fundraising. If I was a betting man, I'd bet he'll bow out by the end of April.
McCain? No way
Works for me! Make Newt UN Ambassador and John Bolton Sec-State. Maybe he can clean out the mess at Foggy Bottom. Plus, these appointments would drive the RATS over the edge.
No idea on who he'd go for as Veep, but it won't be McCain or Romney. My guess would be a Midwestern governor(Tim Pawlenty, maybe? Minnesota has been getting tougher for the RATS to hold, plus he'd practically assure that Al Franken will only see the well of the Senate from the visitors gallery).
Are you usually prejudiced against Southerners, or just this one? Senator Thompson has the beautiful and classic accent of the educated Southerner.
What has this guy got? What does he stand for? Why should I not wish he goes away?
Uh, because he seems to be the only front-running conservative in the race so far: small government, low taxes, anti-abortion, pro-war, pro-gun, etc. There are some websites that display his positions. If you're interested on where he stands, the sites aren't hard to find.
You should not "wish he goes away" because if he does we will likely be voting for either McCain, Guiliani, or Romney, none of whom are both (a) conservative and (b) likely to win. Duncan Hunter may be a conservative, but the chance that he can win a presidential election is not good. Thompson, however, seems to charm and intrigue people and could well defeat a Democrat.
I heard that, thanks! He's pretty funny in a dry sort of way.

Rudy is too liberal to be considered a contender if there is a REAL contender.
1) Has anyone heard anything more on the rumor that the Allen '08 crew is ready to jump on board Thompson's campaign? Particularly the steering committee members that were supporting Allen?
2) How many Blue Dog Dems do we have left on the Hill? There can't be that many. Just curious.
Perhaps these two headlines will appear on FR soon:
McCain Withdraws From Presidential Race, Citing Health Reasons
Fred Thompson: "Yes, I'm running."
Add a couple more:
Chuck Hagel: "I won't be running."
"Romney and Giuliani poll numbers drop like a rock."
That could shake things up.
I'll wait to hear it directly from Fred.

I have heard that there are some. Rumors. Don't know if they are true. But, good golly, none of them nearly as bad as Bill Clinton or Rudy G. It won't kill him as long as he let's his staff know what they are and they are ready for the questions.
