Duncan Hunter can Win!
TownHall Blog ^ | Mar. 15, 2007 | oe Budzinski

Here's what I like most about Congressman Duncan Hunter: Tom Tancredo has had kind words for him, and Hunter talks in depth about three key issues which should be central to the current political debate.

1) Fighting the war on terror:

Our national intelligence and defense communities must be provided with the tools necessary to identify, track, stop and prosecute terrorists before they have the opportunity to strike. The fact that America has not been attacked since September 11th indicates to me that we are on the right course. I am confident we can remain on that course by providing our intelligence agencies with the resources they need while, at the same time, maintaining our commitment to the continued protection of our civil rights.

2) Keeping American Industry and Jobs in the U.S.

American workers are the most productive and innovative labor force in the world. Unfortunately, they are asked to compete in an unfair environment against other workers who make only a fraction of a living wage and are employed by companies that face few, if any, responsibilities to the environment or the long-term prospects of their employees. Our domestic manufacturers are forced to compete against foreign companies that benefit from their country's currency and regulatory regimes. Ominously, China is cheating on trade and using billions of American trade dollars to build ships, planes and missiles at an alarming rate while, at the same time, taking millions of American jobs.

3) Securing Our Borders

I know fencing helps secure our nation's borders because criminal activity in every statistical category has been eliminated or decreased since we built the border fence in San Diego County. What was once a porous border, susceptible to illegal aliens, drug trafficking and terrorism, is now the standard mode in preventing drug smugglers from bringing narcotics into our neighborhoods and allowing border enforcement personnel to reinforce areas of greater need. These results led me to write the Secure Fence Act, extending the San Diego fence 854 miles across California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Besides being right on the biggest issues of the day, Duncan Hunter is noteworthy for his integrity. He is not promoting a laundry list of solutions to every problem we face, and he is not wrapping himself in the cloak of past political heroes (i.e. Ronald Reagan) to justify his political stance. He is not dealing out the same tired hand as every other Republican regarding the failures of the GOP majority and the true meaning of "conservative." Listening to him, you get the impression he does not need to spell this stuff out.

If you listen to Duncan Hunter speak, you will come away with the impression that he is his own man.

A little more of the Tom DeLay interview

RUSH: Okay. It doesn't sound like you've made a choice among the names that I mentioned to you.

DELAY: Not even close. (Laughing.)

RUSH: Does that mean none of them fire you up?

DELAY: There isn't a candidate out there that fires me up. I'm a close friend of Sam Brownback. He is a committed, dyed-in-the-wool conservative. Can he put together a campaign? It's too early to tell.

Very true Aunt. If you look at some of the candidates that the "Duncan Hunter can't win" crowd are promoting, you come away with the impression that it is more of an issue of them not wanting such a candidate to win than anything else.

We live in a world where an unknown doctor from Maine raised $5 million a month and came in second in the Iowa primary before seeing his campaign implode in a McCain-like moment.

The rules have changed - all we have to do is show up and vote our consciences.

I don't think Thompson has made any official announcements.

So, tell me, Ultra Sonic, was Duncan at the Gathering of Eagles in DC today? If not, why not?

Were any of the so-called conservative candidates at the GOE in DC today? I'm seeing a lot of telling us what we want to hear, but not putting it into practice. Why would those that say they support the troops not appear at the rally? I'm losing respect for many at this time.

Well for one thing he just got back from Iraq a day or two ago.

Personally I'm glad the candidates have enough respect to avoid turning it into a campaign event.

I caught him on Fox and Beck I've heard him before but he's sounding more and more CONSREVATIVE-presidential every time he's on. Duncan, Fred Thompson and maybe even Tancredo are gonna give the early Pubbies a good run, if not take it all.

And contrary to what some, especially RINO type, might think. it won't weaken the chances for a conservative republican win in 08. As far as I can see Hillary is unelectable. They way to beat her is to gove her talk time. Just let her talk and she'll commit gaff after gaff, and her pride won't let her back down.

Obama is another kettle of fish, electable but a pretty long shot, especially if he and Hillary start throwing mud.

If that happens the door is open for someone freash, outside mainstream party line. That nixes Gore, Kerry, Edwards, et all as well as a few on the pubbie side.

This could turn out ot be a very interesting and conservatively profitable election.

Duncan needs to keep doing what he's doing...stick to the conservative philosophy and not pander for RINO and leftie votes. Dittos to Fred Thompson and maybe Romney as well.

08 could be a very good conservative year.

He can fly to Iraq, but can't make it to DC because of jet lag? Sorry, doesn't work for me. Don't get me wrong, I would like very much for a true conservative to run for POTUS. But, I want to see more than words. Why would he not be there to support them?

Are you kidding me? You have one side sponsored by the Communist party supported by ANSWER, and the other side supporting the troops and America. What I'm seeing is cowardice in picking a side. What side are you on?

According to his website, he was at the Lincoln Day Luncheon in Phoenix, Arizona.

This was up for at least two weeks, so he's probably in Arizona at the moment.

It is true, sadly.

And that, despite the fact he WON the Phoenix, AZ straw poll in Jan, and tied Giuliani and McCain for 1st place with 21% (164 McCain, 162 Giuliani, and 158 for Hunter). REAL WORLD results show he's a contender among the people, and yet the media blackout is deafeningly silent.

It feels like the media pundits have already "picked" the winners, and our job is to just follow like little lambs. Well, I've got news for them...

I've heard Duncan on Glen Beck and Fox & Friends and I've heard Rush mention his name several times. He is staying busy and campaigning - doing it without a lot of help from the MSM.

All of us that support him need to keep talking him up to our family & friends. He is a great conservative and when people find out what he is about - they like him.

What BS. The candidates will have to choose sides in order to campaign. Which is it? The Communist ASWSER anti-American side or the pro-troops, pro-American side? Trying to hide is not gonna work.

Not to be disrespecful to Mr. Hunter, who by all accounts is an exemplary conservative, or his many FR supporters, but outside of Free Republic I have never seen any metnion of him. Not even on Fox News (thougth I admit I could have missed it). And I certainly doubt the MSM is talking about him.

-

All the more reason to support him.

Besides, the primaries are still a year away.

That's a very, very long time...
