"I am a woman. However, my husband served in VN (and he has a purple heart), and I know how the lack of support from politicians and the media affected him. That is the reason I was at the Phoenix rally with my flag. I wanted to show my support for the troops. IMO, Hunter missed a golden opportunity to show he was 100% behind the troops."

You were at a flag rally in Phoenix. Was that today? The reason I ask is that the only GOE I knew about was in DC, and Hunter was in Phoenix. If that rally was today, you can not blame him for not being in DC since you weren't either. Did you inform him of the rally in Phoenix? If not, how was he to know there was more than 1? I only knew of 1. People can not be at a place or event if they do not know that place or event exists.

Is the GOE the only way to support the troops? Would you prefer he have been at the GOE today, but vote against legislation for the troops? He has been authoring, and voting for legislation for the troops. Is that not a show of support?

"Wonder if they're (the MSM) trying to promote safe alternatives to their lefty candidates."

They are going to continue to promote ONLY those candidates that will tow the OBL line. If Hunter did that, IMO, he'd be the frontrunner already. Hopefully, Hunter never capitulates, just to get elected.

He's running. He has a shadow staff out on the web laying the ground work. Just check out the forum boards at his unofficial website, http://draftfredthompson.com/ (http://draftfredthompson.com/) and you can find out all the details.

Although I'm onboard with Hunter, I don't think that Thompson's candidacy will be a bad thing, even though I do worry about him splitting the Conservative vote in the primaries. Maybe Fred and Hunter can reach some sort of understanding to keep that from happening.

Right now, when I tell people I'm supporting Duncan Hunter, they say "Who?". We need to get his name out where it's seen. I've called the number on his campaign site and ordered signs and bumper stickers. Any thing at all to get his name out there and get the name in peoples minds. I work for a Republican elected official, and she said she had never heard of him.

We're fighting an uphill battle, but it can be done!

"Was anyone there aware of Duncan Hunter reps supporting the GOE? I'll be glad to rethink my support for Hunter if anyone can confirm this."

Hunter's people were also at the San Diego rally for the GOE caravan on March 9th.

I also called and asked for bumper stickers, but I still haven't gotten them yet and I called 2 weeks ago. I might just send them an email in case they got my address wrong.

I was not in DC. The rally in Phoenix was last Saturday. The GOE caravan started in Calif. and worked it's way to DC. He obviously knew of the DC rally, since we've been told he arranged to have some of his people there. I'm not running for POTUS, he is. I just think it would have been a huge boost for the troops for him to be there in person.

Is the GOE the only way to support the troops? Would you prefer he have been at the GOE today, but vote against legislation for the troops? He has been authoring, and voting for legislation for the troops. Is that not a show of support?

From what I've been told, he was at a Lincoln Day Luncheon today and not voting on any legislation. So, the real question is, would I prefer he go to a luncheon or to the GOE. I'm aware of his voting record. Right now, he's still the best of the bunch.

...the primaries are still a year away.

That's a very, very long time.

Yes indeed.

Nice quotes you gathered there. They don't come any better than Duncan Hunter.

Hunter's son is a Marine who has served 2 tours in Iraq and has been steadfast in his support of our effort in Iraq and our troops. What the hell is your problem? He had a prior commitment to another event so he was unable to attend. Get it?! There has been no one stronger in support of the war and our national defense and he has proven it as a powerful member of Congress.

Why don't you ask Sam Hunter yourself? The PHIFOM act only goes so far. (PHIFOM = Put Him In Front Of Me)

"Just an example how the military appreciate Duncan Hunter

In late September, Hunter was the guest of honor at a black-tie dinner in a hall at Washington's Union Station, where the hawkish defense group the Center for Security Policy presented him with its annual "Keeper of the Flame" award.

Among those lauding him at the Center for Security Policy banquet that evening was Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who said the Pentagon relies on Hunter's "wisdom, his leadership, his experience and his 'get it done' attitude.'

"It is something when he comes into your office like a whirling dervish and starts discussing a subject first at the national level and then down at the microlevel, and then leaves you pieces of metal on your desk that you can hardly lift and has explained exactly where it goes, what it's for, why it should be there and then wants to know why it isn't. And God bless him for it."

Rumsfeld also said the U.S. is more secure because of Hunter.

"He's never let the troops down, and as a result of his leadership and his hard work, our nation is a safer place today," Rumsfeld told the dinner gathering that included Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff."

Thanks for posting that. Wow!

My "problem" is that I want the impossible, a politician that doesn't act like a politician. I also have a problem with people that seem to think that because I'm a nobody, that I should not question the actions of the "powerful". Get it?

Q: Will Duncan Hunter make an appearance at the Gathering of Eagles this weekend?
Sam: I was told that we will definitely have our people there to represent us, and that dad is going to make a strong effort to get there as well.

I understand that your father attended a Lincoln Day Luncheon sponsored by the Republican party in Maricopa county instead of attending the Gathering of Eagles. I realize that these plans may have been made before he was aware of the pro-troop rally for DC, since it was a grass-roots effort, and the media were mum as usual. However, I'm told he had representatives at a San Diego rally on March 9th. Since your father is a VN vet, why wasn't his priority to stand in solidarity with them? We have members in Congress attempting the same disgraceful tactics for today's troops as they did for the VN vets. What if your father had told the Republican party of AZ that it was more important to show the troops support, and that those that were planning on attending the luncheon should go to DC instead? I'm a dreamer, I guess, but your father would have had my unconditional support had he done that. He still is a front runner for me at this time because of his record.

Duncan needs to keep doing what he's doing...stick to the conservative philosophy and not pander for RINO and leftie votes. Dittos to Fred Thompson and maybe Romney as well.

Actually, I hope it will be Thompson or Hunter so that the Conservative vote is less splintered.

That's impressive, but where was Hunter in DC braving the freezing cold and mud in DC along with ordinary citizens not running for POTUS this weekend?

I agree -- at this point my priority is a candidate's principles. I'll consider likely electability further in, but first things first.

However, I think Hunter is missing the boat on fiscal/spending issues. Getting spending and debt under control is vital for long-term national security.
