Would appreciate for some guidance .. their patches have messed up my Dell Windows XP before. I have the Service Pack 2 installed.
Thanks a million!
TOPICS: Computers/Internet
KEYWORDS: microsoft; patch; timechange
I know this is probably very stupid, but why can't we just change the time on our computer ... why a download?

As I understand it you can change it manually but you'll have to change it again in 3 weeks.
Buy seed corn and kerosene just in case.

So downloading the fix is all about avoiding manually changing the time twice?

I'm no puter geek but that's what it sounds like to me. I'll find out in the morning I guess.

Ahemmmm....*cough*....
RITC (Renowned Information Technology Consultant) that I am, for a retainer fee of a mere $10,000, two (2- gotta gal pal) First Class airline tickets and a minimum three (3) day suite reservation, I'd be delighted to address such a perplexing crises...
Hmmm...wait....Illinois? Awwww....just set the clock manually and be done with it!! :)

Since I don't trust Microsoft to give me enough information to make an informed choice as to which patch to download and which not to, I either have to take them all, or take none.
I take all their patches, and run Linux or Mac OS or something else on as many of my boxes as I can.
My mental mindset for my Windows boxes is the they aren't mine. They are Microsoft's, to administer as they will, and I just rent them for an excessive fee, to run a couple of captive applications (and a boatload of anti-spam, anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-rootkit, anti-popup, anti-adware, anti-spyware, anti-whateverelse protection) that I can't duplicate yet in another operating environment.

Thanks ... I manually changed the time last night. Guess I'll find out what happens down the road.
