I think it could help overcome the lack of discipline in monetary politics - economy has so much factors of influence - especially in the early times of global trade (that you made an example of in your table) small influences could make economy react.
It’s not possible to promise stability to people - just by having a gold based currency. You’d need a bit more - today that would be a stable pakistan as an example. But it would help - yes I think so.

Its not possible to promise stability to people - just by having a gold based currency.Sounds like the point I was making.
But it would help - yes I think so.
Why would it help? We were less stable when we were on the gold standard.
