Well, let's cancel government fire and ambulance services too. After all, these involve choices too. If you didn't build a house you would need a fire truck to put out your house fire or if you didn't ride in a car you wouldn't be in a car wreck either.

I think liberals want us to live in 'tugboat society' where everyone should wear old rubber tires around themselves and all their property so nothing ever gets hurt or damaged.

What happens to people isn't always within their control. My response was a reaction to this statement by a poster. The climbers made a choice to put themselves in this situation. Climbing a mountain is certainly dangerous and I wouldn't consider it a necessary activity of everyday life like driving a car.
I never said "don't try and rescue them". But now everybody has to react to their situation.

A typical ambulance ride for a grossly overweight person who has suffered a heart attack is a lot less expensive than this search and rescue mission.
