Six-State Raid Of Meat Plants Nets Hundreds Of Illegals

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents raided Swift & Co. meat processing plants in six states and arrested scores of suspected illegal immigrants in an identity theft investigation that lasted almost a year. ICE is an investigative unit of the Department of Homeland Security.

The alleged scheme involved the theft and/or purchase of the identities and Social Security numbers of several hundred U.S. citizens and legal residents. The six plants that were raided are located in Greeley, CO; Grand Island, NE; Cactus, TX; Hyrum, UT; Marshalltown, IA; and Worthington, MN.

Swift participates in Basic Pilot, a U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services program that validates Social Security numbers of new employees by checking information provided on the Employment Eligibility Verification form (Form I-9) against federal databases. However, the program cannot identify immigrants who have assumed other people’s names and identities.

The federal agents said most of the workers were arrested on administrative immigration violations, but some had existing criminal arrest warrants.

No charges had been filed against Swift.

Thanks for posting as I'm not on all day and didn't see this article before.

The big question is what will ICE do with these illegals?
I have no faith in ICE and from past experience the felons are just let go.

Sorry. You don't have to read it if you don't want to. By the way, I see lots of other duplicate posts - will you be combing through the site and sending the same e-mails to the other posters as well?

Thanks for your support. I feel better now. As to your question, there were busloads of illegals taken from these plants. How can that many people be investigated and processed all at once? It's going to be catch and release as usual.

If you're not on all day, then sometimes a quick glance at a page or two of Latest Threads instead of Latest Messages will help keep things from falling through the cracks.

Again, you don't have to read this. You already wasted enough of your precious time chiding me - move on, ok?

I am assuming some plants in Kansas are next. In Dodge City they have been busting quite a few SSN and Birth Certificate forgers and resellers, some who work within the local DMV offices. There will be a pretty large raid soon there.

Used to be that the problem was confined to forged documents. But as state governments moved to documents that were harder to forge - special inks, holograms, etc. - the problem became corruption at DMV and other places. You can even get an original - not forged - US birth certificate, even if you weren't in fact born here. Can you believe it? Meanwhile I just stood in line for three hours to renew my old passport because come Jan. 23, you must provide your original birth certificate and not just your drivers license and Social Security card. I know it is in the house ... somewhere, but it was easier to stand on line for three hours than to tear the place apart looking for it.
