Are you a lincoln chafee liberal? You are so wrong. You have a lot of balls calling teenage a bigot. You are showing your bigotry by calling her/him one!
the martinez appointment was my last straw with bush. I think he should be impeached for being a democrat pretending to be in republican's clothing. He should be impeached for his stand on amnesty and not protecting the borders. Yes i think he is a good man. But even on terrorism now he seems to be lying down.... what happened to "you are with us or you are against us".

I think Bush is still willing to fight them, although it took him a long time to understand the terms of the game. He was too optimistic. But I'm afraid he's not getting a lot of support now, and it's only going to get worse with the Dems (and our first Muslim congressman) in power.

Oh, puhleeze. What he/she said definitely indicated that he/she has a problem with people arriving here not speaking English. My family has been in this country since the 17th century, and has married into successive waves of immigrant groups, some of whom did not speak English when they arrived. It's no different with Hispanics. They'll learn.

Welcome to FR....what an introduction, eh? Get used to it though, rules now vary accordingly. Half the battle is figuring out who gets the better ones or you risk getting banned. I've never met the guy, but I can tell you this, anyone talked like that to me without just cause I'd be all over his azz, 'accordingly' or not. Clearly there was a misunderstanding on his part, but thats no excuse. Poster right behind you assumed the same thing, but he was so intent on tearing you a new one, he didn't have time to notice.

"Screaming that it's Bush's fault is much easier."

Well who's being so damn stubborn about it and ignoring 60% of the will of the people?

Doesn't make it right to call a kid a bigot when you don't know them, judging from a few words a web site.

What exactly is the will of the people? Almost all of the "strong" anti-immigrant candidates lost, including Tancredo. The problem is that some dumb people seem to think that the Feds can wave a magic wand (and vaporize the border, perhaps?), but my point was that people who are serious about getting a grip on what is a local problem should work to get their local government not to give freebies to people who sail into town with their hands out. This is true of everything from winos to nationals. Have a giveaway in your town every day, and you're going to attract the worst of the worst.

But nobody seems to want to deal with the local fight. It's much easier to say that a fence reaching to the moon should be built, as if this would help. Even if it were possible, people who are not good immigrants - that is, people who want to come not to work but to sponge - will get here as long as the local conditions that permit this exist.

Straw argument and OBL propoganda.

No one is opposed to immigrants having to learn English.

We're opposed to ILLEGAL immigrants being here no matter WHAT language they speak.

Backing up your 'anti-hispanic extremists' comment with 'but they wouldn't care if Brits were flooding the border' IS implying we welcome Brits, but we're racist against hispanics. That garbage doesn't fly with me.

Excellent post. However, Bush has not only helped destroy the Republican party but, tragically, is doing the same to America. Let me give FReepers a quote from a best-selling book on illegal immigration that touches on just one terrible aspect of the illegal tsunami - criminality.

"On November 28,2005, President Bush, speaking in Tucson, conceded that in five years 4.5 million aliens had been caught attempting to break into the United States. Among that 4.5 million, Bush admitted, were 'more than 350,000 with criminal records'. One in every twelve illegal aliens the U.S. Border Patrol had apprehended was a criminal.

That is, 70,000 felons apprehended each year, 200 felons for every single day for five years, trying to break into our country to rob, rape, and murder Americans.

Nearly 8 million foreigners did enter during those five years, 3.7 million of them illegally. If one in twelve was a criminal, 300,000 slipped in during Bush's tenure. This is an historic dereliction of presidential duty."

Awe c'mon now, there were numerous polls in the run up to the election that showed 60% of the US pop. favored enforcement over amensty. You are sounding like Dane now.

Tancredo lost ... news to me?

Blaming local governments for this countries failed immigration policy is scape goating this issue. How many states and local governments have passed anti illegal legislation? What about the 4 anti illegal immigrant ballots that passed in AZ. JD got bounced because from what I have read he was always talking about it but never did anything to solve the issue.

What say you about Chaffee and Dewine, both open boarders agents.

1. Numbers matter.
2. Lawbreakers don't assimilate or want to be citizens. They are a criminal class.

From Bush's press conference the day after the election:

(Bush): And so he and I both agreed in our meeting yesterday that it was appropriate that I accept his resignation. And so the decision was made -- actually, I thought we were going to do fine yesterday. Shows what I know. But I thought we were going to be fine in the election. My point to you is, is that, win or lose, Bob Gates was going to become the nominee.

"Shows what I know". The Bush legacy soundbite.

Not true. Tancredo handily won. 5 Members of the House Immigration Reform Caucus lost, 4 to Democrats with similar positions. That is a net loss of 2.
Compare that the slaughter of liberal Republicans. 25% of whom lost.

he problem is that some dumb people seem to think that the Feds can wave a magic wand (and vaporize the border, perhaps?), but my point was that people who are serious about getting a grip on what is a local problem should work to get their local government not to give freebies to people who sail into town with their hands out. This is true of everything from winos to nationals. Have a giveaway in your town every day, and you're going to attract the worst of the worst.

Importing liberal voters is not the solution. Illegals have kids, need medical care, demand education for illegal children, and commit crimes at high rates. All this caosts a lot of money.
Of course this is just one more subsidy to certain businesses.

But nobody seems to want to deal with the local fight. It's much easier to say that a fence reaching to the moon should be built, as if this would help. Even if it were possible, people who are not good immigrants - that is, people who want to come not to work but to sponge - will get here as long as the local conditions that permit this exist.
So you support the laws in Hazelton PA?

It's not a race card. He said he didn't like Hispanics.

Where did he say that?

Despite the best efforts of the Dems, most Hispanic immigrants learn it very quickly (they don't get ahead even in grunt jobs if they don't).

What a crock? They aren't learning English where I work. Or, the must be pretending they don't which would be worse.

Bush wants assimilation. Hispanic immigrants want assimilation.

Really? Why then did he glorify the fact that there are spanish speaking areas of the U.S. and compare them to cesspools around the world?

We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture.

Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende.

For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America.

As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico.

George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000.

You can read the speech here.

Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:

In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. My Bush Epiphany By Lawrence Auster

Go and volunteer to teach English somewhere.

Why? So they can take our jobs?

We lost across the board. A lot of people stayed home and many voted against the Iraq war and Bush.

If I see one more post by an open border bot about how we lost the election because we were too conservative, I'm going to get sick.

The Democrats ran to the right of us in many of these elections on border security.

Arizona passed ballot initiatives with a 70% majority against illegals.

Get the fact and quit spreading Democrat propaganda around here.

I would think the "open borders bots" are more trained at pushing forth their agenda, defying all logic and reason in the process.

That's exactly what they do, TheLion. All the more reason for those who are genuinely interested in controlling our borders to join them in trashing the President?
