They are living in the ground floor unit of a condo. It has been there for years and never an ant problem before. Do fire ants migrate? Hopefully the cold front coming thru will drive them underground but what happens when it warms up again? Amazing that with all our technology that insects ultimately rule the roost.

Do fire ants migrate

Yes. They are difficult to get rid of. But, Lowes & Home Depot both sell stuff to destroy them (you have to kill the queen or they just keep moving). What might help is a tube of caulk to seal up as many cracks as possible. I've heard boric acid works well (it should be in the pesticide aisle for cockroaches).

They do migrate. If you kill them and your neighbor does nothing, they'll move next door and then back into your yard (if they find it better). And use a bait product to kill them, sprays don't work, and may make the problem worse.

They'll be dormant, way underground, when it's cold, but active again when it warms back up.

Boy, I'd hate to have fire ants in my house. That's scary!
