The result of this midterm election makes me very fearful of the future for my children and my grandchildren. To me, the overriding issue of our time is Islamic terrorism. The Democrats have shown that they haven't a clue. Why didnt most voters agree?
HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF.The average sixth-year midterm election, like this year, is much worse for the president's party, which typically loses 34 seats in the House and six seats in the Senate. the Democrats picked up about 30 House seats and five to six Senate seats in a sixth-year election, with lots of seats still too close to call.
DISMAY OVER THE VIOLENCE IN IRAQ. Although President Bush made it clear over and over again that the War on Terror would be a long, tough struggle, and that the center of that war is in Iraq, we are inundated every day with bad news while progress is ignored. We have short memories, and most American voters have little knowledge of history or historical relationships. The sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shia there is disheartening; it overwhelms news about the good things happening there; and it overwhelms any sense of progress there.

The U.S. as a country and conservatism as a political point-of-view are finished! Continuous new illegal immigrant voters will make these things so. This is not a temporary setback which will somehow be corrected in '08 or ever because the political left and all of their allies will do all that they can do to kill all non-leftist politics forever. The creation of the Fairness Doctrine will also help in killing conservatism as will as the banning of the "new media" everywhere. No more conservative websites, no more conservative blogs, no more conservative talk radio, and no more conservative magazines/newsletters. We may even have a nuclear war soon because the political left is clueless when it comes to national security issues-in fact, the political left is clueless on all of the issues. Please prove me wrong on all of these things, because I really want conservatism to make a decent comeback!

Much as I'd like to, I can't.
I agree with your concerns - especially on the 'Fairness Doctrine' (If there ever was a misnomer, this is it), and I write about them on my blog all the time. However, I believe that the entire history of our country is replete with instances where a critical vote or the right man at the right time or just a lucky turn - has saved us. It's what keeps me going. Left vs. right and reason vs. insanity didn't just start yesterday. Its been going on for thousands of years.
Buck up little buckeroo! The greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising again after you fall.
Based on my observations of the election, I'd say conservatism is alive and well, it just had a "D" beside it in this election. Most (if not all) of the dems that beat their Republican incumbent opponents were conservative relative to the dems the already occupied their offices.
Case in point, the guy that beat Santorum is pro-life. Webb (VA) is pro-second amendment and anti-gay marriage. Even Lieberman is pro-WOT, and that was enough to banish him from his party (I hope he keeps the "I", but he has already said he will caucus with the dems). That doesn't sound like Pelosi (et al) to me.
Republicans lost because the weren't faithful to the conservative principals of RWR. The runaway spending, the growth of government, and the losers that provided the aura of a "culture of corruption" are examples of how they lost faith. Now I'm not saying that I am happy that the Republicans lost, but if it takes a bitter lesson to bring them back to what conservatism is, the price may be worth it. I'll get back to you in two years.
Assuming that the dems that won maintain the principals that they were voted in on, you may be surprised at the way government is run the next two years. If they allow themselves to be silenced, and we face two years of impeachment investigations, rising taxes, terrorist attacks brought on by the appearance of weakness, and EVEN MORE growth in government, I can assure you that the dems will pay a price MUCH MORE SEVERE than the Republicans did in this election.
Not when the influx of illegals ends up destroying the country and also creates a large enough number of pro-socialist supporters/voters that permanently prevents conservatives from ever becoming the majority again in both the short-term and in the long-term. This is what's coming here soon!
