***Actual comments from www.democraticunderground.com:***
"Evidence suggests Iran gassed the Kurds as an act of war, and in any event, the US Government has killed more Iraqis than Saddam's regime ever did."
"The US is complicit in the making of Saddam, and...Bush and his corporate fascists have butchered hundreds of thousands of people so that they could secure the fortunes of thier elitist families and friends. There is little difference between the two - oh, except the latter controls the propaganda machine."
"If this is what Saddam deserves then a whole bunch of Americans deserve the same thing, for exactly the same crime against humanity: killing innocent Iraqis. I hope you'll advocate as strongly for hanging American politicians and military commanders."
"There isn't a single mention of Saddam and his trial in the media, after which I don't say to myself, I wish that Bush/Cheney could be brought to trial for the atrocities that THOSE war criminals have committed. Until Bush/Cheney are brought to justice, I don't think we Americans should even express an opinion on some other country's alleged tyrant's fate."
"So where is the justice when Saddam gets death for murdering over 182 people and bushco is responsible for killing almost 700,000??? What kind of balance is this???? When will bushco pay for the death and carnage they have caused???"
"We don't need him alive, now that Bush is doing EVERYTHING that Saddam did (killing hundreds of thousands of Iraqis, having torture rooms, and of course we know there have been rapes). Saddam is superfluous now that Georgie's there. Oh, except at least the country was calm under Saddam."
"There was no part of this trial that was proper. He was the recognized head of state of a sovereign nation. We don't have the right to kill him with any kangaroo court...But if we have the right to hang Saddam, we damn well have the right to hang George."
Liberals just can't stand to think that anybody is worse than President Bush. They refuse to believe it. Bush is their enemy, and any enemy of Bush (and America) gets their support. They're idiots. They're traitors. Call them anything you'd like, but with the new Military Commissions Act, hopefully we can soon call them forgotten.

These days, they're also the most violent of the antiwar marchers in American streets. I'll bet Orwell saw that coming, too.

Would it have been morally acceptable to them to let Hitler complete his plan of genocide for the Jews? For them, yes it would since they have the same ideology as Hitler.

Democrats say that Iraq is unstable without Saddam in charge. That he "kept the peace" (through opression, genocide, torture, murder, payoffs, and a campaign of terror).
We cannot adopt the methods of Saddam so we cannot be compared to Saddam's method of rule.

American Communists (including Pete Seger amd Woody Gutherie) protested against the US going to war against Nazi Germany. That is until Hitler betrayed their beloved Joseph Stalin. The hard left is NOT anti-fascist, as they claim.

I totally agree. Actually, 'far left' and 'far right' are misnomers in my opinion. I think the political spectrum is actually more like a circle, and when you go too far in either direction you wind up in essentially the same place, totalitarianism. Fascists and leftists both have disdain for individuality. Freedom requires individuality.

THOSE WERE UDAY'STune: "Those Were the Days" Boy, the pranks Qusay would play!
Loved to gas the Kurds away.
But those rapes that wedding day--
Those were Uday's.
And you didn't dare complain
Or you'd gain a world of pain.
Mister, we could use a reign
Like that of Saddam Hussein.
Didn't need no polls to tell
Who would rule this living hell.
Gee, our old Iraq ran swell--
Those were the days!

How sick. I can't believe that people could honestly see Saddam as the less of two evils.

What a bunch of wack-jobs. Really makes you wonder why they stay in America.

They can't leave. Mother lives in America, and she has a basement. Why would anybody in some foreign country let them live in his/her basement?

As I've said for a long time now, read the Holy Bible to draw nearer to God, read DU posts to draw nearer to Satan.
---
Reading what the DUmmies have to say is gathering intelligence about the enemy. BELIEVING what the DUmmies have to say is drawing nearer to Satan.
Not everybody is cut out for intelligence work. If you are not, kudos for admitting it to yourself.

I don't agree. On one end there are control freaks who think the government shouild be making all the decisions. There are subdivisions of this belief: Nazis, communists, socialists, ecowackos, anti gun freaks, anti-smoking Nazis, anti-fatty food freaks, etc. ad nauseam.
On the other side there are those who want to be left alone as much as possible, and are willing to leave others alone as much as possible.
When you line it up that way you don't let the Communists and Communist sympathizers pretend they aren't basically the same as the Nazis. They will hate you for pointing that out.

I fail to see fascism as "extreme right".
It is another socialist ideology. Limiting the power of government was a dream of the founders of this nation.

I really think our election day should be the last Tuesday of April. That would give people with short memories a chance of remembering how much they had to pay in taxes. Excellent idea. May I make a suggestion?
How about making it illegal to have federal tax withholding from paychecks. So everyone has to write a check every April instead of hopping up and down gleefully waiting for the USG to give them back their money.

I actually think we do agree. Fascism and socialism are definitively related. That one has been labeled 'left' and the other 'right' is arbitrary, and can obscure the relationship. Maybe a better way to characterize political positions is to put on one side those approaches that empower government and the state, and on the other side those approaches that empower individuals. That way socialism and fascism would be together, where they actually belong.

"Reading what the DUmmies have to say is gathering intelligence about the enemy." It's becoming clear to me why it's a good idea to conduct surveillance on opposition web sites, especially running up to election time. See the thread below. Thanks for opening my eyes a bit wider.
