I read an article somewhere hear on FR, that some terrorists threatened the residents of a village not to take part in voting, or else. The villagers did anyways, the terrorists came back, and were shot to pieces.
Pro-Democracy Iranian Students did not have much of any support from our government, except after six days of demonstrations in 2003 there was mild vocal support. They've come out consistently to be jailed, tortured and murdered. What's our reply? Let in the President who allowed alot of these murders to go on: Khatami.
The regime kills of tons regularly, how do you expect Persians to 'do it themselves'? That's an awefully naive way of looking at things.
Another Note: The people do not have arms in Iran. They were all confiscated by the regime when Khomeini took over.
