Milhous' Erroneous Banning
Milhous ^ | September 26, 2006 | Vanity

Posted on 09/26/2006 1:00:10 PM PDT by abb

I just recived this via freepmail. Evidently the webmaster's made a mistake and needs to correct this.

Milhous Opus / R.I.P. From Milhous2 | 09/26/2006 2:46:53 PM CDT new

Greetings FRiends. Milhous here under a different name.

Allow me to begin my opus by thanking everybody for the things you taught me about critical thinking, politics, and human nature during the past couple of years.

Last Sunday without warning FR abruptly banned me with "reason: troll". A ban possibly caused by my deletion of a few of my older posts in an attempt to improve my own Signal-to-Noise Ratio on self searches after a failure to find a previous post frustrated me.

Perhaps my deletion of a years old post that originally offended another FReeper got flagged at the time then triggered an automatic ban.

On Monday I emailed an appeal to webmaster@freerepublic.com, but it remains unanswered. First thing Tuesday morning I emailed another appeal to jimrob@psnw.com but it too remains unanswered.

At this point my posting ban looks permanent. Although it's impossible for me to post I will still lurk to watch MSM's inevitable fade into oblivion. :)

May my own experience help you avoid a potential pitfall. Thanks again. Good luck.

Fortunately for me, I'm all noise and no signal.

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding and I'm glad he's back.

We don't mind pulling poster's comments but please don't expect us to manually remove many comments, it's time consuming for us.

Tijeras_Slim, LOL!

Only with a premium account.

...which is rumored to be free for Rush 24x7 members.

In retrospect, might it have been easier than banning to simply drop him a FReepmail telling him to knock it off?

You're right, I could have handled it better. I was under the impression that he was asking to be nuked one comment at a time but I should have given him the courtesy of a freepmail about it before banning him.

As long as I have your attention, perhaps you'd be willing to consider biblewonk's reinstatement. :-)

He was banned because he was spamming the abuse button.

I've been here a while and that's a new one on me. Care to explain?

From the sound of it (have you read the thread?), he was clicking the "Report Abuse" links too often, making too much work for the mod(s).

I've never taken the liberty of using the 'abuse button'. The way I look at it,if you can't take the heat, you probably should be on this board.

Make that 'should not be on this board'.

There's more to abuse buttons than just taking the heat. Unmoderated boards quickly descend into maddening flame bowls. It's kind of like a city where no traffic signals are working. Pretty soon no one can get anywhere.

The mods here are quite fair in my opinion. (Hey, you never know, a little sucking up might come in handy someday. I usually refer to them as "Most Beloved Admins/Mods.")

We don't mind deleting the occasional reply for a poster (please identify yourself so we know who's asking) or making a spelling correction in a title. We cannot edit replies, so don't even ask. All we can do is delete them.

We don't have the tools to easily delete mulitple replies to numerous thread as was asked for in this case.

It's much better to ask us about what you want to do than to just submit countless abuse reports.

Geez, I got a freep mail today that I was too light hearted on a serious post, but compared to what happened here. I feel like the guy who felt sorry about having no shoes till he met a guy with no feet. I shall quietly smile and accept that I am who I am.

"I'm sure he won't make that mistake again..."

Regardless, we will require a mandatory attendance by Milhous in the FR 13 Step Program to prevent abuse of the Abuse button.

Addiction of abusing the Abuse button can't be taken lightly.

"Wow, that's impressive. How exactly did you delete these posts?"

Only Way I can think of is to hit the abuse button and ask the Admin to delete them.

I did exactly that but apparently got too obsessive about it.
