I agree with Adam... Captain Ed missed the whole point. I have no idea if Steve Centanni is a Christian... and if he is... that he takes his faith seriously... but he was given THE CHOICE. The same choice that the Martyrs of Christianity were given countless times over the past 2000 years. The same choice Jews were given during The Inquisition... CONVERT OR DIE.

Captain Ed looks at it from them vs. us perspective... but when you boil it down... it wasn't. It was Centanni sacrificing his faith... for his life.

I have no problem with them agreeing to "convert" in order to get released. What I do have a problem with is the lack of a disavowel once they were released and the fact that this whole "forced conversion" issue has been avoided in every interview I've seen of these two.

Had I been in their shoes, I would have gone along with the conversion to get released. But I would have immediately and loudly and publicly disavowed it as soon as I was out of harms way. That is, after all, a tactic accepted within Islam itself.

They must be afraid of a Fatwah if they were to do so.
