Elimination Of The IRS Is The Only True Tax Reform Proposal For America

President Bush has said it is time to address to address income tax reform. The Fair Tax Act deserves a serious look. House Speaker Dennis Hastert wants it brought to the floor for a vote. Majority leader Tom Delay supported it. Over fifty five Representative are cosponsoring presently it and more are jumping on board.

The Fair Tax Act(HR25/S1493)proposal covers three basic areas:

**Payroll taxes
Each payday, I lose 17.5% of my paycheck to taxes(10% to income tax, 6.1 percent to Social Security, and 1.4% to Medicare). This Fair Tax proposal would let me keep that entire 17.5%

My employer would no longer have to pay corporate income taxes ot the employer portion of my Social Security and Medicare taxes(another 7.5% of my salary).

Most citizens don't realize that with our present system, corporations don't effectively pay income taxes-only consumers do. Corporations and their suppliers simply pass on their taxation costs up the line until the final tax payment is made by the consumer himself through the increase in the price of goods bought. This has been true since the income tax was intiated around 90 years ago and will always be true as part and parcel of the very system of income taxation itself.

The problem with a Fair Tax is....Congress will no longer be able to punish and reward particular behavior with the Tax Code.

At least, it's the problem as THEY see it.

I have long contended and still do to this day that the quickest and easiest way to serious and meaningful tax reform is to eliminate withholding.

Make people actually write a check every quarter for what they owe (income and FICA) and reform will quickly follow.

Withholding has created an illusion for most people that they pay little or no taxes.

A quick little experiment you can do is ask people what they earn. The bulk will tell you their "take home." And every April ask people how much they paid in taxes this year and the answer will often be "I got money back!"

They will see a bigger problem if they don't support The Fair Tax as support amongst the populace grows.

Corporations don't pay any tax; consumers do. Unless the corporation loses money, every cost a corporation has gets passed to its customers. If a corporation does not make money, eventually it goes out of business.

PS: The only Fair Tax is the tax that taxes you and not me. Everything else is a detail.

That would certainly help but that is only tinkering with an existing system that continues to grow in complexity and becomes more oppressive. Shifting taxers from income to consumption with The Fair Tax Act gives people more power how much and when they will be taxed. Visit The Americans For Fair Taxation for more details.

How will it happen when almost half of the people now pay no Federal tax and actually receive "Credit"? are they gonna go for having to fork over any $$$$ without us giving it to them first?

It's not just a coincidence that barely over 50% of the people pay ALL of the taxes now. The object is to make the actual payers, a minority voting bloc.

It would be nice if we could all be in that position. Unfortunately we all get taxed so it is not a detail. At least with The Fair Tax we have the power to choose how much and when we will be taxed. I suggest you visit Americans For Fair Taxation for more information.

From the article:
... anyone who believes a politician goes to Washington simply from a sense of civic duty and public service is listening to the tooth fairy, and it's becoming increasingly apparent to the American taxpaying public how corrupt our system has become. Yes, there are good men in Washington, but they can be counted almost on the fingers of both hands. One of them is John Linder, who sponsored this bill in the Senate from the state of Georgia.
Well said. Except John Linder is a Representative, not a Senator.

FWIW, the corresponding Senate bill, S1493, was introduced by Sen Saxby Chambliss who is also from Georgia.

This article fails to address the strategies needed to get past the lobbyists, tax accountants and tax lawyers who will fight this tooth and nail. Unfortunately, these three groups have outsized influence on members of Congress.

Everyone is currently paying for the cost of embedded value added taxes(VATS). Corporations pass on the cost of their taxes to consumers in the form of higher prices. Prices will be considerably lower under The Fair Tax with the elimination of Fair Tax FAQ #2business to business taxes.

"Make people actually write a check every quarter for what they owe (income and FICA) and reform will quickly follow.

That is the little secret behind much of the support fo the Fair Tax. Boortz pushes the fair tax all the time and never admits that the reason he likes it is that the fair tax will make the cost of the bloated government obvious to all citizens who pay taxes. Thos who oppose the fair tax want to keep it hidden. I just wish that people in support of the Fair Tax would be more honest and admit their real motives.

I constantly put pressure on my reps in congress and the Republican Party to support the Fair Tax. I've never been a 1 issue voter before, but now may be the time.

Education and taxpayer revolt at the voting booths is what will make this happen. Massive demoinstrations in Washington would also help a great deal. We've got to make LOTS of noise over this.

After reading reply #2 above, I stand corrected. The bill in the Senate is S25, introduced by Saxby Chambliss of Georgia on January 24, 2005.

FWIW, S1493 which I mentioned is also a Fair Tax bill, introduced in July, 2003 by Mr. Chambliss.

FWIW, the corresponding Senate bill, S1493, was introduced by Sen Saxby Chambliss who is also from Georgia.

S.1493 Chesapeake Bay Watershed Forestry Program Act of 2005was introduced by Senator Paul S. Sarbanes on July 26, 2005 and has nothing to do with The Fair Tax Act. Senator Chambliss introduced S.25 The Fair Tax Act on January 24, 2005.

This article fails to address the strategies needed to get past the lobbyists, tax accountants and tax lawyers who will fight this tooth and nail.

You can find information about strategy to pass The Fair tax at Americans For Fair Taxation.

Please take into consideration that a third of voters think the US Government was in on 9-11. Probably twice that many would have absolutely no understanding of your point. Especially with the DNCMedia working triple overtime to bash it.

The Fair Tax Act will itemize the consumption tax on each receipt making it clearly visible how much Congress is taxing the people. Any attempted increase by Congress would be seen immediately compared to he income tax where legislation to increase taxes can be buried in the 60,000+ page tax code. Consequently Congress will have a much more difficult time convincing the public. The Fair tax website clearly states this specific point Fair Tax FAQ #37. I suggest you visit the website Americans For Fair Taxation for more information.

AFFT is fully aware and has been for quite some time it will take a concerted effort to inform the public. That is all the more reason to become a volunteer and support The Fair Tax.
