In case you are wondering, 5 pints constitutes over half the blood volume in an average-sized woman. You go into shock at the loss of just 2 pints. Most people would not survive a loss of 5 pints without medical intervention.
What gynecological condition can result in virtual exsanguination?
I've been researching, and even a delivery gone bad usually results in a loss of a pint or two -- certainly no more before doctors intervene. She didn't go for a delivery, obviously. Cancer? Symptoms of ovarian cancer rarely include heavy bleeding, and nothing in the literature I've read suggests catastrophic life-threatening bleeding.
But you know what has been linked to dramatic bleeding, up to and over half the the body's blood volume? Probably the only thing short of botched surgery? The abortion pill RU486.
Damn, this is getting weird. Lew Rockwell and now this.

my husband had to have 5 units of blood due to bleeding ulcers caused by undiagnosed Celiac Sprue.
I had no idea that he was so close to death!

But bleeding on this scale, especially since there is no evidence that Cindy Sheehan was in the hospital in recent weeks or months for any procedure, is a known side-effect of RU486: The implication: an abortion?
OK, sure, I wouldn't see any moral hesitation on her part for having one (since she's displayed no morals otherwise), but geez, that brings up one horrifying question?
Who (or what) would ever cooperate in getting her in a position where she'd need one?
To quote my teenaged daughter: Ewwww!

Are you sure it wasn't 5 pints of brain matter she lost??? No, because she'd have to HAVE that much to lose it.

"Are you sure it wasn't 5 pints of brain matter she lost???"I would think she lost 5 pints of crap, which would be 10% of body total, by volume.....

Other explanations become more and more remote. RU486 has the side effect of excessive bleeding. Some women will bleed for weeks. Catastrophic bleeding is rare, but not unknown, and is a logical consequence of the way the drug works on the body. For political reasons tied to the abortion debate, the side effects are underplayed.
It might be that Sheehan's fasting exacerbated the effects.
But there might be other explanations, though no one has offered one that fits the facts as well.
Five pints is not normal. Not even close. Something very serious happened.
As I said in my post, I wouldn't even be going here except for that someone at GSFP decided to make her bleeding a rallying cry for the Sheehanites. That makes it fair game in my book.

Ummm .. I think Cindy is past the baby years She is 49. I understand the typical age for menopause setting in is between 48 and 53. Women have been documented as having given birth when they are in their 60s.
