White House dodges question on Connecticut Senate race

(Washington-AP, Aug. 14, 2006 12:47 PM) _ President Bush's spokesman did some bobbing and weaving, but never did say that Bush supports the Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut.

When asked this morning whether the president supports Alan Schlesinger, Bush spokesman Tony Snow hemmed and hawed.

Snow said simply that the president supports the democratic process in the state of Connecticut and wishes them a successful election in November.

In follow-up questions Snow was asked whether Bush likes Joe Lieberman better than the Republican candidate. Again, there was no direct answer.

Lieberman lost the Democratic primary last Tuesday to Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont. Lamont's campaign ads linked Lieberman to the policies of the Bush administration.

Why are so many Republicans resigned to letting Joe Lieberman win? He has promised to caucus with the Democrats and usually votes with them. If Schelsinger isn't a good enough candidate, lets get a new one.

This is a great opportunity for a pick up and our Republican leaders are blowing it.

The last poll shows 47 Lieberman, 41 Lamont and 6% for Schelsinger.

Just how does any party overcome those odds when the majority of voters in Conn are registered independents. Not to be crass but, I don't think there are enough dead people in Connecticut to get a win for the Republican.

We are not going to pick up this seat unless they get a good republican candidate running.

What's going to happen is Joe L. and lamont are going to run against each other splitting the vote, now if we had a viable republican running we could possibly pick up the seat, however we don't. In the latest poll he stood at 6 percent. Not something to build confidence. The alternative is to hope Joe wins because he is PRO war, it is about his only conservative opinion, but it is a big one. Lamont is a communist, with a communist grandparent and communist parents. He only calls himself a dimwit.

We know Leiberman is going to vote with the dimwits once elected, but he will still have his pro-war views, he kept them through the primary knowing he would probably lose to the moonbats, so he will keep them after the general election.

If there was a snoball's chance in the hot place our republican candidate could win we would be all over it, however, he can't. Therefore people are going with the least obnoxious of the dimwit candidates, oddly enough that is Leiberman.

There was a FULL page ad in the Hartford Courant from a group called VETSFORFREEDOM.ORG thanking Lieberman for his support for the troops. So I was told by a friend in CT. Sort of semi-related to topic....

Outside of Divine Intervention there is no chance the Republican will win. Pretending will not change that. There is no opportunity to "blow".

Given the fact that re-electing Lieberman will drive the Party of Treason nuts I say go for it.

"Schlesinger said he wasn't surprised by the White House's hesitancy. Republican leaders have been praising Lieberman and now they can't suddenly abandon him, he said... 'When the Republican leadership in Washington also starts believing I have a shot, you'll see some support coming in,' Schlesinger said... Schlesinger's campaign stumbled in July after it was learned that he used a fake name to gamble at a Connecticut casino and had been sued over gambling debts at New Jersey casinos."
