Matthews bases his opinion on a President on some weird combination of traits I can't quite get down. If he likes your personality, then he ascribes great significance to meaningless qualities. His babbling above about Bush makes him sound exhausted--what is he talking about? Just a bunch of generalities. When did Clinton or any president ever act on something right away, like in an action movie? His favorite living ex-president is Jimmy Carter, a model of action who waited MONTHS to do something about the hostages in Iran and screwed that up, who spent ages futzing with Congress on details of bills so his is the biggest failure of all the living ex-presidents.

Matthews is People magazine-level political "insight".

"I confess, I like Chris Matthews"

Hugh, Hugh, Hugh, how could you?
Chris Matthews is as mad as a cook. Certifiably insane, and probably drinks like a fish as well.
He has one of the most severe cases of BDS I have ever seen.
Like him?
Like a hole in the head!

YaYa123 happened to be at the keyboard as Matthews went off the rails and I thought she captured the feeling of the "interview" pretty well. Her comments:

"Matthews on Imus:

Oops, Chris Matthews seemed sort of defensive about not being over in the war zone like Tucker Carlson, didn't he? Oooeeyuk! imagining Matthews in shorts! UGH!

Imus asks Matthews what he thinks: Hizzoblah is winning just by fighting, kids in the Arab street are rooting for them, just by fighting they win. 2000 year old war, blah blah, everytime we get involved, they add notches on their guns. Jimmy Carter took Egypt away as an enemy, Yeah, Jimmah!!
You have to wonder if it's our fault Israel has more enemies, Matthews says.

Matthews says Clinton did a pretty good job, you gotta say that, of wearing two hats, but under Bush we've lost our role as power broker. Condi went over there and it's a joke...they know she's a friend of Israel. A real failure of this administrration that we can't play referee.
The only way out of it, "an election". This president is so committed to his right wing position, we won't talk to anyone who disagrees with us, we have more enemies, Israel has more enemies, we aren't going to deal with Sryia or Iran, blah, blah, blah.

Bush didn'nt have a philosophy of his own, so he bought whatever the pencil-necks told him to do after 9-ll. Lord have mercy, Matthews is even going after they way we torture people!! He calls Bush administration "this crowd", he calls the president uneducated on the history of the area.

"Are you going to take a breath Chris?", Imus asked.

Chris Matthews Exposed = Everything is Bush's fault! And he, of course, manages to throw in a Karl Rove mention too.

The problem with Joe Lieberman is if you vote for him, you are voting for the war, says Chris. LORD! even Imus calls Matthews ridiculous. Now Matthews says if Lieberman gets a big turn-out, it will mean people are saying he's a sweet man, not because they support the war. Imus is right, Matthews needs a vacation."

I was hoping someone covered this. Matthews was practically hyperventilating.

No way can I,or will I,trust anyone who worked for both Carter (a thoroughly loathsome individual) *and* Tip O'Neil (the typical Massachusetts leftist hack politician).

Matthews has completely lost it. We elected the "goes to bed at 9:30" Bush because he was "cooler" than the pot-smoking Algore.

And there are more contradictions in the transcript.

Geeze. Matthews used to be a populist liberal I could disagree with, but tolerate. Now he is in the Howard Dean/Cindy Sheehan wing of the whacko party.

And the constant lie about Bush not reading books. Bush reads books (such as Edmund Morris' Theodore Rex), but what he does not read is the New York Times.

I never thought I would look back on Walter Mondale, and Michael Dukakis, and Tip O'Neil and say "Those were reasonable liberals."

Kookism is clearly contagious.

If Chris Matthews thinks the world is falling apart, what on earth did he believe in the late 1980s during the Jimmy Carter era? What did he think on the morning of April 24th 1980 when all that was left of the Iranian hostage rescue attempt was a smoking hole and charred bodies? What did Chris think of cowardly Democrats like Carter's Secretary of State Cyrus Vance, who resigned because he opposed daring to rescue Americans held hostage?

If Chris is in a tizzy now, what was he in the late spring and early summer of 1980, when the Democrat party he was a part of, which was supposed to return America to moral clarity after Watergate and Vietnam, failed so completely?
