if you think your going to sell the married adult population of America on abstinence, you are on crack.

Even though I am not a Christian, I feel embarrassed for them to be associated with the likes of you.

Human beings have sex, it is normal, it is healthy. Get a life.

"if you think your going to sell the married adult population of America on abstinence, you are on crack."

No, I expect civilized American adults to possess some modicum of self-control, personal responsibility and common sense instead of using what's between their legs to make their decisions--especially something so sacred and important to society as this.

Sex is probably one of, if not the singular most powerful and most sacred thing God has entrusted us with. This also goes along that sex is a tool and not a toy. Tools are serious things, and when they're misused, people almost inevitably get hurt.

This is a reasonable expectation out of all of society, and I believe other people can and should expect the same out of me.

Unfortunately in today's world, all three are obviously sorely lacking.

Further, it's people such as you who attempt to rationalize and apologize for these people. In doing so, you're part of the problem, and not part of the solution.

Even though I am not a Christian, I feel embarrassed for them to be associated with the likes of you.

I'm a Catholic Christian who's learned (fortunately, the easy way) that I really ought to a.) wait until I'm married to have sex; and b.) after I'm married and if I want to have sex without having kids, there's NFP. Simply put, just don't do it when she can get pregnant.

Thus like the Church, I'm not opposed to birth control. Just artificial methods that make people think they can play God, and enable people to have sex without realizing the inherent gravity of the act.

Finally, I'm sorry to hear that. Though by no means am I a so-called "holy roller." Far from it. I just know that some things are in fact morally laudable when done under the right pretenses and morally wrong the rest of the time.

IOW, it's called having a traditional set of "knowing right from wrong," and moral absolutes.

Human beings have sex, it is normal, it is healthy. Get a life.

So is using common sense and having the fortitude and the wisdom to know that indeed there is a time and a place for everything.

Unlike you, I refuse to be held under the Clintonian "If it feels good, do it" philosophy. Nor do I try to rationalize my wrongs. Something's wrong, don't do it. End of story.

Sinkspur didn't read the speech (or listen to it, which is even better) because he can't bear the thought that an orthodox Catholic willing to defend the moral teachings of the Church might actually be ordained to the priesthood someday.

The pervy older men should keep their mitts to themselves. As soon as a girl grows tits it is like all the perverts come out of the woodwork.

"you can't tell fourteen yearolds to keep it zipped up, and you want to try that with married couples?"

This is a really interesting comment, and it bears on what different people think is a "normal" state of maturity.

Our 14 year old and 16 year old sons have a strong code of moral values: they don't lie; they don't cheat; they don't do alcohol or drugs; they are thoughtful, helpful, and considerate; and yes, they do keep it zipped.

The same is true of every adult that I know well enough to know such things about. They are not helpless in the face of impulse and appetite. They exhibit a wise and kind self-control. And we expect that. We expect it of adulthood.

And... in all seriousness... you don't?

Actually, today, the problem is more with the fourteen year olds than married couples.

And yes you can tell fourteen year olds to zip it up. It certainly worked for the most part when I was that age and for hundreds of generations previous to mine.

As for married couples, read up on Natural Family Planning. It works great.

This entire thread (which I have not had the time to visit as much as I would like) is highly instructive. I agree with your points 100% (rzeznkij and Mrs D). And it goes beyond any kind of sectarianism. Natural law is natural law no matter how or where one worships, or doesn't worship.

Sex=children unless one either kills them in the womb or prevents them via contraception (many kinds are abortifacients as well).

The fact is that humans are more than animals. We do have a certain amount of free will, and we can choose whether to have sex or not. The idea that "all fourteen and fifteen year olds are going to have sex, no one can stop them" is demonstrably false. If children are raised properly, most will not have sex at that age. Unfortunatley the culture is a simmering stew of out of control hedonism, moral abolutes have been jettisoned, any mention of God is verboten, while porn and "sex-ed" is everywhere. Girls used to play with baby dolls, now they play with slut Bratz dolls. Parents buy little hooker and wannabe gang outfits for their toddlers. Magazines at the grocery store have what used to X rated articles emblazoned on the covers.

The funny thing is the more people act like animals in rut, the more miserable they are. Using self control and trying to live up to the standards of sexual conduct that are (oddly enough...) practically the same in every religion in the world makes people happier, families more intact, and happier children. Just because a desire enters the mind doesn't mean that we are mindless animals and have to follow it. We have a higher faculty we are supposed to use to judge whether a desire should be followed or not. It's called using our discrimination and using our judgement.

Every religion in the world gives guidelines for human behavior. There is a reason they are all almost the same. Natural law comes from God, and the more we rebel against those natural laws, the more angry, selfish and miserable we (as a society) become.

"The pervy older men should keep their mitts to themselves. As soon as a girl grows tits it is like all the perverts come out of the woodwork."

Many, many years ago when I was a 17-year-old newly graduated from high school and newly away from home --- in college and work situations --- I was distressed by the number of ~older~ men who'd be pawing at me whenever they got the opportunity. I felt like a bowl of jellybeans on the table: everybody that passed by seemed to want to grab a li'l something.

This was before the days when the term "sexual harassment" was invented. I wanted very much to be liked and accepted by my co-workers, or at least not to offend them, and here I was having to rebuff physical advances on a more-or-less continual basis.

At the same time, of course, I was highly interested in giving and receiving affection. But I wanted to be treated like a cherished friend, not a roller-towel at a public comfort station.

And I think it's worse now for girls who have any self-respect, or even a normal instinct for self-preservation.

Thank God, the "really good guys" don't act like that. And all the guys I'm friends with or work with now, are "really good guys."

Little jeremiah, I'm always glad to hear from you.

Your right about ordinary good decent behavior being related to happiness. My husband and I have such peace and trust, and such confidence in each other (he's right over here on the bed just 24 inches away where I can lean over and kiss him on the ankle) --- this marriage is a blessing for life.

God's right about this stuff, y'know?

Are you suggesting...... self control? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

Even St. Paul agreed with mutual abstinence.

Not agreeing with the way it was presented is different than arguing that it shouldn't be presented at all. Your points are well taken.

I attempted to listen to the speech, but couldn't get it to play.

I very much agree particularly regarding subjects of this type, the manner of presentation is very important (and have always thought so). And a positive presentation such as the one you suggest in this kind of venue (and in the majority of venues) would be effective with most people, though there would still be those who would strongly object to even that.

The speaker is very young and has much to learn.

SELF control (at least for young singles), is far more effective than BIRTH control. But few believe me.

The AVERAGE MEXICAN FAMILY has 2.6 Children. Birth control is READILY AVAILABLE in Mexico.

Why is it that so many people get this STUPID idea that Mexicans have alot of children. The Mexicans IN MEXICO have had a declining birthrate for 35 years. The government of Mexico ENCOURAGES birth control!

Welfare and birth control have had an effect on the non-performance of the native-born underclass. Does it still make sense to import even more poor people, who's children will likely NOT rise above the status of their parents or the American-born underclass?

Automation, as always, is the answer. Remember that more jobs have been lost to automation (even in China) than the "outsourcing" boogeyman that braindead National Populists whine about on a regular basis.

My husband and I sit on the sofa together and e-mail each other links to articles, etc. It's so much fun! :o)

NFP saved our marriage. Well, God actually saved us by introducing us to NFP. Sex is amazing when you learn to love and respect each other. Anyone reading this, if you've never taken a NFP class, I strongly encourage you to give it a try. It doesn't hurt. I promise. It's so much healthier for the woman's body! When my husband heard about the horrible risks involved in taking the pill, he was anxious for me to quit using them. 8 years pill free and 3 beautiful children later I feel our marriage is strong enough to withstand anything.

God is amazing! I hope this man got through to a few of his peers!

What a beautiful testimony to NFP. It is a great tragedy so many people know nothing about it.
