"...Would you believe she was also on the NSC during the same period, and with the same portfolio (Africa), as... JOE F'N' WILSON?..."

Govt people don't believe in conspiracies. At least that is the impression I have gotten from all the ones I have met.

The "secret underground CIA prisons" do not exist. They are a figment of a security man's imagination ~ a security man who watches "24".
Try: http://www.tv.com/24/show/3866/episode_guide.html 20. 7:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. (edit) Community Score9.1 Superb First aired: 4/16/2002 Production Code: 1AFF19 "Kim lands in jail when the cops don't believe her story. Jack stumbles onto a secret detention center. He arrives just in time to bluff Andre and his men out of freeing a prisoner who is being transferred in. Jack confronts the prisoner and discovers that he knows him from the past. Before Jack can learn any more, Andre and his soldiers make another run on the prison. Writer: Robert Cochran, Howard Gordon "
I think it's quite cute of the CIA guy to take this drama which is very similar to Joe Wilson's real life adventures 15 and 20 years ago, and use it to trap Joe's wives and girlfriends in their intrigues.
President Palmer's wife is undoubtedly modeled directly on one of these gals.

An interesting insight.
Makes sense.

Renfield, great nickname by the way.
What if she also leaked Plame's name as well?

I think the chronology does not work for Mary McCarthy to have been directly involved in sending Joe Wilson to Niger (though she may well have been involved in various discussions behind the scenes). She was not in the CIA in Feb. 2002 when (according to what we have been told) the Niger mission was conceived and executed. She had left the government in the summer of 2001 (resigning from her NSC postion in August 2001) and then held a fellowship at the CSIS for some time afterwards. I haven't seen the specific date at which she took the position in the IG's office of the CIA, but I would be surprised if it were as early as Feb. 2002 though I certainly don't claim to know.
"Prior to joining CSIS in August 2001, Mary O. McCarthy was a senior policy adviser to the CIA's deputy director for science and technology. Until July 2001, she served as special assistant to the president and senior director for intelligence programs on the National Security Council (NSC) Staff, under both Presidents Clinton and Bush. From 1991 until her appointment to the NSC, McCarthy served on the National Intelligence Council...."
p.s. They seem to be purging her info from the CSIS site - leftists in a panic..... I had to go to a cached page on Google to find their bio on her:

That's what we've all been looking for....Who actually sent Joe....Valerie was only a pawn...doing the face work. Who actually said Joe didn't have to put anything in writing or sign a "non-disclusure" statement".
The secret was never about Valerie, the secret was about Joe who was "obviously" undercover on a business trip at the same time.
Little Mary would DEFINITELY have known Valerie's status at the CIA.
