"I think the stories are overblown," Chertoff said. "I asked the chief of the Border Patrol about it. The number has not increased; in fact, it had decreased a little bit."

T.J. Bonner, the president of the National Border Patrol Council, dismissed Chertoff's comments as uninformed.

Chertoff was clueless as to his role post-Katrina, and he's clueless when it comes to the border. Bush should replace him with a former military type who knows how to act - the only military role Chertoff seems to emulate is Sgt. Schultz.

""I think the stories are overblown," Chertoff said."

The man is not dealing with the real world. He needs to be retired and replaced by someone who is going to take on the Mexican military when they cross the border.

But he suggested that many of the incursions could have been innocent mistakes -- such as authorities in Mexico crossing into the United States in desert areas where the actual dividing line between the countries is unclear

Shows how well our border is secured. Cherthoff admits there are areas on the border that are unclear let alone protected. But, I could have told him that. Maybe he should get a clue and realize that this is not an excuse but one of the very reasons that some people are upset about Mexican military incursions in the first place.

I can imagine this conversation:

Chertoff: "Chief, the number of incursions by the Mexican military has gone down. RIGHT?"

Chertoff is ignorant, bipolar, and/or corrupt.

So build a fence, you bozo. The Israelis don't have a problem knowing where their border is, now that the fence is there. Neither do the Indians. These US government apologists for Mexican criminals should be fired. They are obviously not prepared to keep the invaders out.

Chertoff is an embarrassment to the country and more specifically to the Bush administration. I believe his job is a another unneccessay level of bureauocracy that makes America less safe, but at least we could have someone more competent if the job is going to exist. This makes me long for the days of Tom Ridge.

That is an outright lie. The Minutemen have released a video showing Mexican troops climbing through a FENCE. If these incursions are so rare and only happen in unmarked desert areas, what are the odds that the Minutemen could show up with a video camera one day and catch the Mexican military in the act?

One incursion is one too many.

The MSM is concealing the pictures.

Whats worse is that the administration thinks we are gullible and stupid in that we would actually believe this BS.
Their trivializing of these border incursions really pi##es me off.

"I think the stories are overblown," Chertoff said.

Oddly enough, I think the stories of Chertoff's competency, motivation, and the security of the USA are grossly overblown.

Guess that makes us even.

The fact that the incursions are happening at all and this jerk isn't outraged by it tells me that Bush is not serious about this issue.
