When you have no or inadequate information, generalizing can save your life when you do not have the luxury to wait for new information. When we are dealing with children, we teach them that all stove burners are HOT and never to cross any roads.
When they are able to obtain and process additional information we teach them to make distinctions. This process of starting with generalizations and moving toward distinctions is built into our survival genes.
This recent concept that ALL generalization is wrong is not only nuts its easily proved that no sane person does it in everyday life.
What is wrong is the refusal to move from generalization to distinction when new proved information is obtained. Then it becomes bigotry. Before then its perfectly rational.
