Bathhouses in San Francisco or Gay Marriage, Is it one or the other?

Posted on 04/08/2006 7:58:43 AM PDT by street_lawyer

At the risk of being called a gay basher or homophobic by pro-gay advocates, (probably not many in this blog), it is time to turn from being politically correct to becoming proactive against the spread of AIDS among one of the most vulnerable segments of the population: gay San Francisco males; furthermore, to risk being accused of doing the work of Satin, perhaps if society will not ban “bathhouses” then perhaps gay marriage is the lesser of two evils. In theory at least, a couple in a monogamous relationship is not as likely to contract HIV, as are those who engage in indiscriminate sexual contact with multiple partners.

Reuters reported that one in four gay men in San Francisco have contracted HIV. Nearly one in five of the city's males above the age of 15 are gay making San Francisco the city with the highest percentage of gay men in the country. More then 16 thousand men in the city are HIV positive. The likelihood is that the number is even higher since it was difficult to get a precise number because of sensitivities over the issue. The Horizon Foundation an AIDS foundation estimated that 300,000 gays and lesbians live in the Bay Area. [1]

Multiple partner gay sex is an unpleasant fact, but HIV infection does not have to be. The SCOTUS holds that gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to engage in sexual relations, but certain groups are loosing participants and have to sponsor education for the next generation. Ken Thomas, a member of The 15 Association, founded in 1980 and one of the nation's oldest kink organizations had this advice: "People started to realize that if you're not out there, who is going to mentor this next generation?" he said. "We still have conversations today. 'How do we put our best foot forward?' 'Can we speak the language?'  The education Thomas is talking about ranges from lightly restraining their partners to a bedpost to a little fantasy role-playing to building a leather sling in the den. It is politically incorrect to refer to gay sex, or what Thomas describes,  as deviant sexual behavior. Dr. Laura Schlessinger tried that and lost her television show. So much for the Hollywood crowd who are constantly telling us that they can bash our President, our troops in harms way, and democracy, and we should still pay to see their movies.

As if a piece of paper is what stops gay men from having committed relationships. Lesbian women have committed relationships. Maybe men are just not all that interested in committed relationships that do not have biological children involved.

Dr. Laura's TV show just sucked. Its failure had little to do with her stance on gays.

The Sex Positive Agenda (of which the Homosexual Agenda is a battering ram to society's morals and laws) dictates that you should make no moral judgements over any sexual pairing regardless of age, sex, marital status, number, relation, or species of partner.

There is no "either/or". As they said when Bubba was in the White House "It's just sex". It doesn't matter that the loony left wants to stamp out smoking in public and private (including rented apartments) because of the dangers of second hand smoke, the exchange of biohazardous fluids has been "determined" by those setting the agenda to be none of our business.

I thought her show was cancelled BEFORE it went on the air.

You are quite right of course a "piece of paper" is not a prerequisite to having a monogamous relationship. Your point is well taken. I hadn't consider it before.

There appears to be a near-compulsive need to seek out new sex partners among most gay males, even those in longterm relationships, from what I've read and heard. The marriage issue is more a bid for greater public acceptance, than it is an actual desire to be committed to one person for the rest of their lives in a monogamous sexual relationship. Those "bath houses" were closed, I believe, only to slowly come back as treatments for HIV became more effective and the fear and stigma of being "positive" has receded. So, it's not an either-or proposition. You'll get both. There will be "married" gay couples wallowing in bath houses while sharing multiple partners, you can count on that.

Did it ever make an appearance? I think not. You might want to read "Arrogance" by Bernard Goldberg" PP 169-170

I tend to agree. The title was a hook to interest people in what is going on in San Francisco. In fact neither alternative is desirable either from a moral standpoint or a medical standpoint. But as long as liberals pour the ink in the MSM there is not going to a any change in the liberal agenda.

If I happen to see him I'll ask, but Satin usually refers to a cloth that typically has a glossy surface and a dull back. It could catch on however as a popular name.

And still a countless number of "internet savy" people refer to this web based discussion forum (aka-bulletin board) as a blog.
