The Why Of it All By Jenni Vinson-Trejo March 31, 2006

The American public has been against Illegal Immigration for decades. The politicians managed to ignore the will of the people for decades. Democrats have openly and blatantly sought to pander to the Illegal Immigrant population in hopes of harvesting those swelling masses and adding them on to their voter base. Most recently, the Democrats attempted to register Illegal Immigrants through allowing them driver’s licenses.

The Democrat political mantra went a bit like this: Let Illegal Immigrants drive and Let them vote—for us! Let them have the American Dream so we can have their votes! Aww, Democrats, ya gotta love em. They never stop trying.

So, this sudden need to tackle the problem of Illegal Immigration makes little sense unless you ferret out the “Why of it all” and those stories are lodged in Washington DC and Mexico City.

In Washington DC, both the Democrats and the Republicans are laying out the stage for the Presidential election of 2008. Democrats are the challengers and they do need to pander to the Hispanic community, but they know that they polls indicate that 70% of ALL Americans want Illegal Immigration to stop, so they are going through the process of attempting to reform Illegal Immigration.

The Republicans don’t want to come across as crass and unsympathetic to human beings who happen to be Illegal Immigrants. They have a growing Hispanic constituency too and they don’t want to alienate any of them, so they are carefully working through the process, trying to figure out how to pander to every side of the issue.

That’s Washington, DC for you. It’s a wonder anything ever gets done in America!

The real story is happening in Mexico City and we are unknowing participants in that drama. Mexico will have a Presidential Election on July 2 of this year. Their current President, Vicente Fox, is retiring from office. Mexico’s three main political parties have now chosen their respective candidates: Felipe Calderón is running for the National Action Party (PAN), Andrés Manuel López Obrador is running for the Party of Democratic Revolution (PRD), and Roberto Madrazo is running for the Party of Institutional Revolution (PRI).

The PRI monopolized the politics of Mexico from 1929 to 2000 when Vicente Fox’s PAN party overtook them with promises of cleaning up the corruption left by the PRI. Apparently six years was not enough time to turn around the massive corruption in place throughout Mexico. Many consider Fox to have been a dismal failure because he did not to deliver on his campaign promises. Many in Mexico are looking to set a strong President in power now so that they can fight fire with fire and really begin to take back the country from the corrupt, criminal and violent elements that have overtaken them.

So this is why America is dealing with the Illegal Immigration issue right now: Vicente Fox’s PAN Party candidate, Felipe Calderon, is having trouble keeping the attention of voters while the PRD candidate, Andrés Manuel López Obrador has found a message that is gaining momentum. He says he'll listen and respect all Mexicans if he is elected president but ''the poor come first." In a country where more than half the population is poor and many more feel neglected, Lopez-Obrador’s populist message is getting through.

George Grayson, a Mexico specialist at the College of William & Mary wrote a book about López Obrador, entitled ''The Mexican Messiah," Grayson writes, '''The Mexican people are looking for a savior. He appears to stand for something transcendental, he's offering esperanza or hope”.

The son of a shopkeeper in a tiny provincial town in the swampy southeastern state of Tabasco, López Obrador served as mayor of Mexico's enormous capital from 2000 until he stepped down in July 2005 to run for president.

Lopez-Obrador says he will extend a program, which he implemented in Mexico City, to provide monthly stipends to seniors and single mothers, and says he will kick-start Mexico's sluggish economy with major investments in infrastructure. He says the costs will be covered by slashing salaries and privileges for politicians and top bureaucrats, including cutting the presidential salary in half, and by stamping out corruption.

How could possibly be opposed to any of these ideas Lopez-Obrador has for cleaning up Mexico? It would seem to be in the best interest of the United States to have a strong, corruption-free Mexico because that type of environment should stop Mexico’s citizens from needing to illegally immigrate into our country.

Well, Lopez-Obrador is a staunch communist who is allied and supported by Hugo Chavez of Venezuela and Fidel Castro of Cuba. Having Lopez-Obrador win the Presidency in Mexico could well usher in a Communist Union of Latin American states much like what the USSR used to be, except this Union will be right next door to us.

This is the why of this whole Illegal Immigration issue: Our politicians know that the United States cannot afford to allow a Communist Union of Latin American States develop. So, in a rare (for these days) bipartisan agreement, the Democrats and the Republicans have united to meet a common goal— to bolster the PAN Party.

President Bush met with Vicente Fox in Mexico this weekend and gave the people of Mexico a clear message: that they should not worry about the debate occurring in the US; that it is simply democracy playing itself out. He assured them that the US would work towards the best interest of both country’s and their peoples.

Another “Why of all this” lies in the fact that both Castro and Chavez hate the United States. Chavez has pledged himself to see the US come to harm. Our politicians know that Lopez-Obrador has expressed the same sentiments towards the US. If Mexico allies with Venezuela, 40% of US oil may be more difficult to purchase from these unfriendly entities.

Our politicians know that they can’t just pander to the people of Mexico in hopes of swaying their Presidential election and keep that government from adopting Communism; they have to deal with the issue of Illegal Immigration seriously or there will be hell to pay in the next election here.

One of the promises Vicente Fox made during his campaign six years ago was that the US would vote in a temporary work program. That deal was struck up by the Clinton Administration in hopes of getting rid of the PRI corruption in Mexico.

Now our politicians are hoping to appease both the US and Mexico by passing Immigration reform that includes the temporary work program for Mexico and the 700 miles of wall for us.

It’s not a bad plan. Let’s keep this real. The US can’t even stomach punishing terrorists who have killed our citizens, much less, illegal immigrants who, by and large have committed no other crime past illegal entry into the country. The temporary worker program will seal as many as 7-8 million of the 12 million illegal immigrants who are here now. They will be eligible to stay in the US after 11 years of participating faithfully in this program.

The fence, if they build it and man it with plenty of border patrol agents, will likely stop the massive hemmoraging of immigrants we see now. It isn’t 100% fail proof, but it be the beginning of the end for illegal entry from Mexico into the US. We have to start somewhere!

I have gathered enough puzzle pieces to put forth a clear picture of why we are dealing with the issue of illegal immigration right now. But there are still another “why” that I don’t understand: Why have our politicians allowed for civil unrest rather than to educate us all as to what is really happening?

After all these years of working to keep us divided, our politicians know it’s too hard to get us all to agree on much. God help us. We really need divine help right now.

Great summary, but "The Why Of It All" should be the title and www.1440keys.com should be in the source link instead.

Wait til the Mexican election. If the communists win, they will build the wall. They are great at keeping people in. Send back the poor and exchange them for the rich that will want to flee.

Dick Morris had a piece with this same thesis that ran a week or so ago.

Perhaps one could take the Leninist view and say "the worse it gets the better it is". Maybe if Mexico went commie we'd actually build a wall and enforce the border.

And I have no doubt we will not, if push comes to shove, let that tin pot crack pot Chavez push us around.

As for this "Many in Mexico are looking to set a strong President in power now so that they can fight fire with fire and really begin to take back the country from the corrupt, criminal and violent elements that have overtaken them." Well, the violent, criminal and corrupt elements in Mexico are the RULERS.

no they will not.

They will subsidize the export of untold millions of Socialist immigrant - who will do the work that we don't do /s - with the intent of making a very strong socialist presence here that will be closely allied with Mexico and chavez.

The arms don't have to be smuggled - They will buy them right here - and that is the end.

They are looking for Hilter-lite, but they are getting Stalin-lite.

That country needs a real revolution.

Absolutely right! The irony in all of this is how we are we so careful with the rights and even feelings of these citizens of Mexico while they, themselves are opting to vote in a Communist leader whose regime will clean house through violent and possibly murderous means (as Communist regimes are prone to).
