I think they are highly "political" in the sense that politics, in their view, is the way to feel important when they are not. They pretend they are sitting around chewing the revolutionary fat with Chomsky and enlightening him on the battle ahead. But maybe this delusion simply feeds what you brought out - the need to whine, complain bitch and moan. Maybe instead of being pseudo intelligent (which goes without saying) they are pseudo political.

You may be correct, but again, that is an "excuse" for their real inadequacies. The ant-farm is fascinating; I'm working on a master's degree in sociology at the moment, and using the DUmmies as my thesis; "the sociology of the internet," if you will, but of course that is not the same thing as the sociology of real life.

Sadly, I believe that the sociology of the internet IS the sociology of real life to them. For the rest of the world, the people who go to work, go to church, work in their garden, whatever, real life is just that - REAL - and difficult, and exciting and not an experiment. It sounds like a fascinating thesis! You could e-mail it to me when you're done - the inner workings of the minds you'll represent would be an experience for sure! And I wouldn't have to go buy a real ant farm!

Are you using any Orwell in this? Seems like a good "backup" guy for it!

Right you are; while the rest of us make careful distinctions between real life--as you described it, working, raising children, religious and educational activities, civic responsibilities--and internet life, the DUmmies are convinced that internet life is real.

The internet life is "real" in the sense that it is a phenomenon that actually exists, but that does not make it real life.

The internet "reality" is no more real than the television "reality," another phenomenon that of course in fact exists, but in no way resembles real life.

The difference between the DUmmies and us is that when watching television or on the internet, we accept what we see and hear as entertainment, contrived people and events, while they accept it as real facts.

Where, oh where, else in the world can one possibly believe that e-mails and on-line petitions affect real life, excepting in DUmmieland?

Oh so true! On the first part, I know people who wish Jed Bartlett was the President - sadly, I know one or two who think he IS!!! I love certain TV shows, I enjoy the story, I know the people - just like I do certain novels I read over and over again. I can immerse myself in the story - and then leave and do that living thing again. It is sad to me that some people can't do that.

On the second, nowhere. That's not sad, it's laughable. Perhaps sadly laughable, but laughable nonetheless. These people can't even muster the physical wherewithal and the ability to enter the real world for the revolution they crave with every fiber of their being. In my opinion, if you can't fight for it, tooth and nail, blood, sweat and tears, you don't deserve it. And they can't fight. How can you fight what is only in your own mind?

"If you have savings then, by definition, you ARE NOT BROKE. I've been there, and I know."

HAH! You beat me to it! This is exactly what I thought when I read I am broke, but I would pull money out of savings!

OR-everyone stay HOME for 2-3 weeks...

Slightly off-topic, but I think it was last Friday that Hispanics in Georgia were being urged to take the day off work in protest, to show the rest of us just how important they are -- part of the protest against any kind of immigration reform. In any case, one paper -- can't remember which one -- said that the protest "crippled" the economy of Georgia...and followed up with a statement the "four McDonald's restaurants and a landscaping business" had to close down for a day. That's their definition of a "crippled" economy??? BWAH-HAHAHAHAHA!

Uh, it takes a couple of years to research and write the thing, and I started only in January.

The original idea popped up when a cop suggested it to me, during the height of that scam that rocked the internet last year; he seemed, uh, impressed at how "good" I was, in predicting behavior.

In December, I decided I didn't have to work this year, other than occasionally and sporadically, because I made money last year and never got around to spending it.

But one has to do something with his time, in a productive manner--siccing the cats on the coyotes of the Nebraska Sandhills is not exactly fulfilling--and this seemed an idea just about as good as any others I had entertained.

Serendipity, random time and chance, rules this life, and so far it's been good, all good despite a few speed-bumps.

Omigosh! They've learned how to spell "martial" law correctly (rather than "marshall" law)! Be still, my heart!

Don't get too excited. It was a lucky guess. Next time they'll spell it "marital" law.

I still think PJ's brain is going to turn to mush if he keeps diving in the DUmpster...

I thought they were supposed to throw them out on the 1st. Wasn't that the day they were taking over the White House?

That was supposed to have been March 15th

Making fun of benburch for his mental illness is like making fun of a cancer patient. He can't help it. He's sick.

I'll laugh as the men in white coats drag him away. He's no more like a cancer patient than I am an illegal alien.

Cindy Sheehan will never recover because she has allowed her mourning to be exploited by those who hate this country more than they love her or her son.

She's not being exploited. She is a hateful moonbat from way back.
