Your Tax Dollars at Work at UT-Austin

The DallasBlog reported over the weekend the story about the UT zoology professor, Eric Pianka, who reportedly advocated in a speech at a Texas Academy of Science meeting in early March -- the elimination of most of the world’s population by airborne Ebola -- What is even more disturbing than the professor’s bizarre remarks was the reaction of his audience, according for Forrest Mims III, who was in attendance at the event: "I watched in amazement as a few hundred members of the Texas Academy of Sciences rose to their feet and gave a standing ovation to a speech that enthusiastically advocated the elimination of 90 percent of the Earth’s population by airborne Ebola."

What in the world is going on in academia if Forrest Mims’ report is accurate? Eric Pianka claimed that "his beliefs were taken out of context" and that he is just worried about controlling population growth. This is not consistent with what the Gazette-Enterprise of Seguin, Texas, reported about Pianka’s March speeches. The newspaper quoted the UT professor as saying that disease "will control the scourge of humanity. We’re looking forward to a huge collapse."

Forrest Mims stands by his story and told the AP that "there was no mistaking Pianka’s disdain for humans and desire for their elimination in the speech he heard."

The lame response from UT spokesman Don Hale was that "Dr. Pianka has First Amendment rights to express his point of view." That may be true if he were a private citizen. But, if it is true that Pianka advocated the extermination of 90 percent of the human race, should he be teaching our students at the University of Texas?

DallasBlog reported in the middle of March the story of University of North Texas professor in the School of Education, Jan Holden, who tries to "conjure up the dead" through something she calls "induced after death communications". See the full article on Dr. Holden here.

School Administrators at UNT have ducked repeated requests by DallasBlog to comment on Dr. Holden’s "unusual" sessions with her graduate students. School Administrators at UT-Austin appear to be equally non-responsive to concerns expressed about the views of Dr. Pianka.

These are serious allegations, and University Administrators need to look into both cases rather than making "no comment" or invoking the First Amendment to dodge the issue.

Leftists who dream of Utopias have a God-complex. They want to tear down the world as it stands and rebuild it in their worldview.

There is no tolerance. There is no accepting of others. Despots can't handle genuine dissent and diversity. When the world doesn't go their way it is (A) because the public is stupid & (B) rich guys own it all.
