HOLYOKE, Mass. -- Haleigh Poutre's birth mother is expected to file a court motion seeking more of a say in her daughter's medical care.

Allison Avrett plans to appear in Holyoke Juvenile Court on Wednesday.

Haleigh, 12, has been hospitalized since police say her adoptive mother and stepfather severely beat her in September.

About a week after taking custody of the Westfield girl in September, the Department of Social Services sought permission to remove her from life support.

Hmm. I was kind of guessing that it would be the male judges who would be interested in liberalizing Blewinski laws.

Yes, alas, he did, and for a number of years. It wasn't so much apostasy, since he had no influence by then. He just turned into an old grouch. He wasn't at all like the Barry G of 1962, a man who put principle before party or self, and who could inspire the many to rise above themselves.

I'm very sick and tired of most judges. I've only known one here locally that I hold in esteem. She is what a good judge is all about.

Me too. They have power over people before them. They can make and break fortunes and lives. It goes to their head faster than two quarts of champagne. Nobody can be trusted with power, least of all a judge who is not accountable to the public.

March 8 article about Haleigh Poutre at the new medical rights site. Haleigh eating, says mother

No new information here that I can see, but look at the last line: "She said the state stopped giving [Haleigh's mother Allison] Avrett updates when she hired Murphy."

I wonder what's going on in the DSS that they don't want Wendy Murphy looking into this case? Whatever it is, it's not smart to snub a good civil rights attorney. If Murphy is half the lawyer we think she is, the bureaucrats will be squirming before long.

I saw Wendy Murphy on TV recently. She is billed as a former prosecuter and an advocate of protection of children. I am glad she is involved and bet DSS is nervous.

Here is an article on the Protocol that nearly got Haleigh:

By Colleen Carroll Campbell

When little Chanou was born in 2000 with a rare and painful illness that leads to abnormal bone development, doctors gave the Dutch infant less than three years to live. As it turns out, she only had seven months.

That’s when her parents and physicians, discouraged by her grim prognosis, joined forces to do something that has become increasingly accepted in the Netherlands: They euthanized her.

“It is in some ways beautiful,” Dutch pediatrician Eduard Verhagen told the London Times, when describing the dying moments of children like Chanou. “But it is also extremely emotional and very difficult.”

Snip

The threat of euthanasia is already a reality for some American children. Haleigh Poutre, the 12-year-old Massachusetts girl severely beaten by her stepfather last fall, had spent only eight days in the hospital when her state custodians began fighting for the right to remove her ventilator and feeding tube. Doctors had diagnosed her condition as a persistent vegetative state, but Haleigh recovered before they could euthanize her.

Haleigh’s case reminds us that child euthanasia can happen in any nation that has lost respect for the intrinsic value of life and the inviolable dignity of the person. The chilling reality is that although our depraved indifference to the sanctity of human life may not be as advanced as Holland’s, we are moving in that direction.

Chilling Protocol

>> I saw Wendy Murphy on TV recently.

What was your impression of her? I'm going to presume she is pretty much on top of her game. Otherwise, TV is not going to seek her appearances and she should save her skills for the courtroom anyway.

>> ...advocate of protection of children.

God bless her for that. The biggest threats to children, these latter days, are child protection bureaus and boyfriends of unmarried mothers. (Boy friends are also far more likely to batter women than husbands are.) The best friend children can have is what we now are obliged to call the "nuclear" family -- having both parents in a loving, religious marriage.

It IS chilling. But the problem starts much earlier: with false beliefs. Once you buy into modern positivist philosophies, you are adrift. Without God, there is no safe haven, no anchor, no truth. The questing mind will try to make something or someone else God -- alcohol, sex, power, drugs, new age, or worst of all, oneself -- but it never works. You watch these people drift from therapy to quack cure to meditation to who knows what. Often at the end lies madness. Jung (I think it was) said that of all his patients in the second half of their life, none ever got better except by recovering their belief in God.

Liberalism itself is beset with this madness. It has long since abandoned higher values in life for vulgar sensation. It has no firm beliefs or principles. (For instance, once it stood for a color-blind society; now it advocates the exact opposite, color consciousness, and at the top of its voice; nobody knows what it will preach tomorrow.) Its politicians seriously have to ask focus groups what they "believe" this week.

A central tenet of liberalism is that there is no right and wrong. In law, not knowing right from wrong is the traditional definition of criminal insanity.

I agree.

Like Michael Schiavo and Judge Greer, Judge John A. Connor is evil, has no business being a judge and should be removed before he causes more tragedy to innocent people and enables perverts. Both Bill O'Reilly and Scarborough have been outraged that he is on the bench.

>> No wonder they cremated Terri so fast I bet

As I recall, Schiavo's lawyers actually applied to the court for immediate cremation. That's like standing on the courthouse steps and yelling for the cameras, "If we don't destroy the evidence fast, they could get us for Murder One!"

Unfortunately for Felos and Bushnell, immediate cremation was too illegal even for Greer. So, the autopsy was performed and when it was over, the bulimia theory -- Michael's only alibi -- was gone.

Have no fear...Greer will burn in hell along with Felos and all of the other death mongers who helped to murder Terri.

Greer can't hurt Terri anymore. All he can do now is just keep on driving those nails of damnation right into his own coffin...let him blubber and accept awards for murdering helpless women, fat lot a good they'll do him where he is going.
