It's just a political issue, not a strategic issue.
You can tell when opportunists are blowing something out of proportion because they leave behind clues. In this case, it's that no one cared about nuclear-armed China running our West Coast ports for the past decade, nor did anyone care during the entire vetting process for the Dubai deal.
Nope...it was only *after* the Dubai ports deal had been approved by Bureaucrats that the political activists started condemning it (i.e. they waited until they could "blame Bush" before they ever spoke aloud the first "warning" of this deal).
The vetting process for this deal has been going on for almost a year, yet talk radio, broadcast Tv, the blogs...they've all been completely silent.
Until...
The Dubai ports deal was approved.
It's a classic political setup. A trap. A clever trick to fool conservatives into bashing their own conservative leadership.
But the U.S. Coast Guard is still providing the same security...the same U.S. port managers will run the docks whether the British company continues to manage those ports or if the Dubai company does it.
So I don't have a lot to say on this subject. A lot of good people will be taken to the cleaners by a political trick that is so fiendishly clever. What am I to do, kick them while they're down?!
I am in agreement with your comment. And it's no coincidence either, that since this situation has arisen, we suddenly have a whole lot of new 'freepers' sign up only interested in one thing and one thing only.
I am curious if they will be around after this has been settled.
