"It is absolutely disgusting that the two NJ Senators, Lautenberg and Menedez voted against a "native son". The could have at least had the decency to vote "Present" if not a yes."

Both of these 2nd rate guys got into the Senate via Democrat manipulation. Politics trumps everything in NJ and their vote was to be expected

Still Lautenberg, Menendez, and Corzine are all more popular in NJ than Alito probably is. This victory may mean that the senators do listen to public opinion on a high profile nomination when the public has had a chance to see everything in the open. Maybe this vote will help that Cranston, RI, mayor win the GOP Senate nomination in "Little Rhody."
