(Vanity) Folding@Home - Team (we're still searching for a name), is now at #777 and still climbing.

Welcome to the folding at home thread. The previous thread has gotten too large, so we move on to yet another.

While this folding@home team is not officially sanctioned by Free Republic, it's members, or it's founders, it is comprised primarily of Free Republic members in good standing, who have banded together, to donate their excess CPU cycles to a worthy cause. Via Distributed computing, millions of computers around the world, contribute directly to scientific research, in the quest for a greater understanding of diseases such as Alzheimers, Cancer, and Mad Cow (BSE).

Currently, the team is in 777th place, having moved up from 1200th place, a week earlier, and is now in the top 100 teams, for daily contributions.

This is an entirely voluntary program, and if you want to learn more, links are provided to the program, or it is easily googled by "folding@home".

Yeah, hehe. That was a fantastic little trick we played on them the other night! It got them all jazzed and full of hope, teehee.

Man, you guys, that was brilliant, and getting JimRob to come on and make that speech...priceless!

You guys deserve a medal for that performance, you had me sucked in hook, line and sinker. If only the DUmmies knew why we really did it. LOL

LOL! They bought it, big time!

Does anybody have the link to the project point page? I thought I bookmarked it, but apparently not. I just did a little 46 pointer, my current wu is a 25 frame dgromacs core, curious about it.

Just a heads-up: My older AMD64 box, I believe it is a 3200, started going much slower yesterday. Since I pretty much use it as a headless box I didn't keep tabs on it.

However, I *did* have the graphical display of FAH running.

A few minutes ago I went poking around on it and found that the graphical display of FAH, WinFAH, was using 98% of the cpu and the actual core, FAHCore, was getting about 2%.

I shut down the display and CORE went to 100% like it should have been.

Now, this was just an aberration as my other machines did not exhibit this behavior - just this one box.

But I second the folks who have mentioned in the past to shutdown the graphical display and only open it when you want to by right-clicking on the FAH icon in the system tray and choosing "Display".

Our Trucker's little contribution so far...

Not too bad, considering some of them are "folding" on their lappy's while they go down the road. :-)

Win98 boxes need to be restarted every few days to clean up the memory leaks.

On an earlier thread, somebody mentioned that we were on track to reach the top 1000 by the Rose Bowl kickoff. Who thought we'd be pushing 700?
