MEXICO CITY - The police chief in Chihuahua City, Mexico, and his bodyguard have been shot and killed.
Prosecutors say Jose Torres and his guard were killed late Wednesday after they left a police station and headed home.
Spokesman Rene Medrano says unidentified gunmen opened fire with assault rifles from a sport utility vehicle, then sped off.
Officials had no motive or suspects in the case.
The killing was the latest attack against police in northern Mexico, which has seen an upswing in violence due in large part to turf battles between drug gangs.
In June, Alejandro Dominguez was gunned down eight hours after becoming the police chief of Nuevo Laredo, across from Laredo, Texas.
But, but, aren't almost all guns illegal in Mexico? (/sarcasm)
