Dear MP Ken Dryden, you owe me an apology: Stay-at-home Dad

Dear Ken,

Please thank Gladys for accepting my phone call on your behalf. I suspect she will be busy taking many, many more phone calls from stay-at-home Parents like me who take exception to your assessment of our ability as parents to provide caregiving services to our children. Your various statements trashing parents are appalling to say the least, what on earth were you thinking Mr. Dryden?

What gives you the right to judge my ability as a caregiver and parent? Did you not raise your own children, or did you foist that responsibility onto someone else?

Regardless of your own failings as a responsible parent, the following statement highlighted should be retracted and an apology forthcoming in the same way these hurtful statements were uttered, in public and in the House of Commons where you should be held to account for your high-handed and arrogant attitude towards stay-at-home parents like me.

“Unless you send your kid to a licensed, regulated facility that receives a government grant, you're not getting child care”

Please explain what on earth would make you think a mother or father couldn't provide their own children with the kind of early-childhood development they need?

I’m deeply offended by your insults and expect an apology from you in writing. If you are unwilling or unable to take responsibility for your statements you should resign in disgrace.

Respectfully yours,

Mark-Alan Whittle

Stay-at-home Dad

Ken Dryden came to my political science class (1st year university) and gave his "social programs are the future" speech. I was the only one paying attention and I threw him off guard with a simple policy question that any MP let alone a cabinet minister should be able to answer. He stumbled and faltered. He's useless as anything more than a wall in front of a net. After I asked my question (the first) the prof said "one more question" And we had about 45 minutes left in the class. How sad is that.

Sorry. I didn't get the link in....

Warren Kinsella

2. I heard that some Martinite types were just on TV saying that the Tory child care rebate would be used by people to "buy beer." Is that true? Did they actually say that - you know, that poorer Canadians will spend on beer, not their kids? Wow. Let me know, if so.

Dryden is following in the sordid footsteps of the insufferable Alan Rock, cursed be his name.

What a despicable representative of white-bread Canucklehead kowtowing to the Liberal Establishment he is - he must have taken too many pucks to the head!

Apparently it was Scott Reid, one of the PM's most trusted advisors!

Juicy!

Isn't Scott Reid the one that said "Alberta can blow me". Why do Liberals get away with childish antics (stomping on Bush dolls, oral sex requests) and conservatives are drug through the mud over such gaffs?
