inept? That was the least of his character flaws. Try thug, commie, terrorist, narcissist, friend of Castro, etc.

I would like to know where they get the description inept. He was a physician and the brains behind Castro. If anything it was Castro who was inept.

He was inept in trying to lead a revolution in the Belgian Congo, after indepence. Castro sent about 1,000 Cubans with Che in the lead, they basically were not properly trained and Che had to sneak out. After that he went into Bolivia, ran around the jungle for a few months stealing from the peasants (all in the name of the greater good) before a peasant pointed him out to the Bolivian Army and he was killed. Castro, as much as I hate him, was the brains behind the revolution. Ineptness in the Batista dictatorship and the reluctance of the US government to get involved allowed Castro to take power.

He was inept only in the sense we undermined his guerrilla actions. I cannot go into more details than that.
