As I’ve repeatedly said on the Threads, “The purpose of ID/Creationism is to destroy and discredit the Conservative Movement”.

It does almost seem that way. The way I explain it to my dad is that the "conservative movement" consists of various opinions about the issues, not ALL of which are, in my opinion, correct. I still think that Conservatives get it at least 80% right. I'll take those odds.

I don't know WHAT my brother was thinking when he married her.

Ummmm, big hooters?

The sort of maturity you and maxter are exhibiting rarely shows up on DU.

I spoke up and said "Don't worry I know you're here just to eat our food, and I expect you to leave soon after".

LOL!

A guest at our home (related by marriage) announced, "We have turned history on its head and created a myth after having conquered the Native American . . . " To keep peace, I merely suggested that the history of man was one of conquest and that, in the spirit of the day, we should be thankful for all we have as a result.

She is a BIG lib and probably a DU'er as well. Back during the 2000 campaign, before I knew her politics, I invited her to a Bush rally. "BUSH?" she sneered, "Aren't you worried about his stand on choice?" "Uh, no, I'm rather strongly pro-life," I replied, and that was sort of where it has stood since then.

LOL! Maybe.

If he married her for that, though, I think his happiness will be dropping (or should that be drooping) 20 years from now.

She sounds like my husbands extended family. Not witty enough to actually be funny, and too dumb to laugh at without feeling like your laughing at a slow child. LOL

Lucky for mankind my husbands liberal family members are infertile and can't reproduce.

But I know some of you did have close encounters with moonbats.

In my immediate family, everyone may have different leanings, but, when we disagree, what might sound like an "argument" to outsiders is actually an enjoyable debate to us.

Debating at the dinner table was a nightly event growing up in my family. It was nothing to us. Midsentence, one might say, "Pass the Parmesan," and then continue making the point. No one held any hard feelings, and we all probably learned something from each other, too.

Now, outside my own immediate family, things might be different... but if you only get together once or twice a year with the extended relatives (whether they lean to the Right or the Left), it's bearable. LOL.

Many years ago, my idiot cousins started their Thanksgiving tradition of donating all their "Thanksgiving" feast to the poor and eating bread and water in order to properly empathize with the street people and other poor.

We prefer Turkey and All The Fixings. Our annual donations to the Salvation Army do more good than posturing and drawing attention to ourselves.

Awww thanks! I did get blessed! It was an honor to cook like that for all of them. The two Corpsmen are actually TDY (i think that's what it's called) from Camp Pendleton and will deploy from here, so their families didn't make the move with them to Pendleton. They stayed back in their home states of residence. These two guys made it clear that they were not feeling up to celebrating, so my husband dragged them both by the collars out of their rooms. LOL He out-ranks them anyway...hehehe ;o)

The mood was light and lively, we got to see pics of everyone's families, hear their stories...it was just awesome, even though it was nearly 80 durn degrees and the AC was on..LOL God Bless our troops indeed!

So in response to anyone who criticizes me for not joying in with the plastic Christian holiday, I say to you, "F*** Christmas!"

California, as most of you already know, is prime Moonbat territory

During the last election I had a banner behind the rear window of my car reading "Yes on 74, 75, 76 & 77", just because I knew it would "tick off" the loser tax-grinders.

Well, I happen to work in the community where the anti-God nutcase Nudow lives, So I am making sure that I get a "Merry Christmas" banner to put on my car.

Stuff I never did before these moonbats told me I shouldn't... or can't.

Right.

I was having a discussion with my Uncle when the news reported more Iraqis dead in a car bomb. His reaction was knee jerk and immediate. Since I'm the family oddball conservative he asked me how many more were going to have to die in Iraq because of Bush. Then he hit me with the big one.

He asked me how my son had managed to avoid the draft.

You can't communicate with uninformed stupidity like that.

Wow! What kind of a guest poops on everybody else's Thanksgiving? When I hear that "evil conquest" line of bilge, I respond with something like, "Since you feel that way, perhaps you'd like to join my class action lawsuit against France. My Anglo-Saxon ancestors lost a lot of good real estate in 1066 during the Norman Conquest and I deserve reparations!" Or, more seriously, one might say, "Yes, left to our own devices mankind is really pretty bad. We've treated each other very poorly throughout history. That's why we need a Savior like Jesus!" Each is guarantted to send a lefty moonbat spinning out of orbit!

No such luck here. Actually, so many other things I love about her -- she has taught her children enviable manners, is a great cook, and is usually very gracious. As long as we all steer clear of politics, things are fine.

My cousin found that Tatyana was a doctor in Russia and thought he had found someone who could dazzle us evil capitalists with the wonders of socialized medicine. She explained that she treated a large number of patients who were terminal only because they were approved for treatment far too late. Her boyfriend was also a doctor (pediatrician) who couldn't take the emotional strain of telling parents that he couldn't do anything for their children and finally killed himself.

She explained how capitalism is making life better for Russians all the time. The number of private practice doctors is growing and the cost of their care is coming down. In some places there is a glut of medical care that causes doctors to offer sales of medical services.

She talked about being a little girl and remembering standing in line for hours to buy a loaf of bread that cost a half weeks wages. She compared that to America where I stop for gas and pick up just about anything I need at the same place.

She put my cousin in his place without even knowing it. She explained that the reason life has improved a thousand fold is due to free enterprise. My cousin really didn't have any way to rebut her argument and hopefully he's doing a lot of soul searching.

Spent Thanksgiving with my parents at their place in Boca Raton (Palm Beach County). Dad is an independent who usually votes Republican, but argued with me at breakfast about how "anyone who wants to come to America should be let in as long as they aren't a terrorist" and how it was "extreme" to deport illegal aliens. In the words of my father "who's going to push my wheelchair if the illegals are deported?"

I threw my two cents in but did it in a way that (to me at least) seem calm, rational and adult.

I heard an aunt telling another family member about an interview on (where else) NPR, about some peace type who was doing something inane like I think it was placing toy soldiers around town and putting messages like "come home" on them. Actually I couldn't get the whole story straight and in some sense it doesn't matter - but it involved toy soldiers and "peace" and "bring em home" - that much I figured out.

So I just chimed in that that sort of thing highly offended me. I was immediately challenged as to why that would be offensive to me and I responded that this was just like Jane Fonda all over again sitting on the anti-aircraft gun in NV and that this sort of thing gave aid and comfort to the enemies of the US.

There was no shouting, no screaming, (and probably no-one was converted either) but I said that that sort of thing offended me and someone said that it probably offended many others as well (not present company but people "out there").

So I felt like I handled the whole thing fairly well - got my point across in a calm reasoned fashion, but didn't let the "peace" comments go unnoticed.

Oh, no. LOL. You should stand in front of them eating a slice of pumpkin pie and telling them what they're missing.

I do think it's a good idea to volunteer time serving food to the sick or the elderly on Thanksgiving Day. That's what one of my sons did this year. But then he and his father met up with the rest of us to enjoy a great meal for themselves, too.

Well, Zuit!

You may despair from ever becoming a liberal, if you're not aware that you should have pounded your chest and yelled constantly on Thanksgiving Day, "I donated enough to the Salvation Army yesterday to feed 210 homeless persons today!!"
