I HAVE been there, and it is horrible. I managed not to get hooked on painkillers by the skin of my teeth. But in all candor, all people are different in their threshold of pain, and anyone who slips into it due to this has my sympathy. I get mad when FReepers chide Rush on this. He never abused alcohol period, and never used ANY drugs until pain overwhelmed him.

Franken is/was the most unfunny comedian I have ever seen in my 50 years. Garofalo is second. They both jumped on the Hollywood left wing bandwagon just to keep their names in the media.

...... a story about a discussion that he had with Hannity at last year’s Democratic convention:

Yeah, it is funny, but it doesn't take much to make Hannity look like a pompous twit.

I tuned in to a couple minutes of his show when he was doing it from Boston, out of morbid curiosity; he was talking to Harvard prof Laurence Tribe.
The audience was tittering at their "jokes". The jokes were
not funny. Sounded like they had a couple dozen people in the auditorium, maybe.

How about just after the '04 election? For the heck of it
I tuned in for a couple minutes (_all I could take_) of
Franken and he was either sounding profoundly depressed,
or talking with a conspiracy theorist about the Ohio vote.
It was sleep-inducing.

Well, unfortunately, Rush left himself wide open for this criticism and suffers the resultant loss of credibility. I like Rush but, sheeesh, was a mess he made for himself.

Rush was addicted to a prescription drug, Al made it sound like he was a hard core drug abuser, like many of his friends in Hollywood are.

This remark was not born of any remarkable failing of Rush, but by the remarkable hypocrisy of those who have psychopathic need to condemn him.
