The only place I can think of that it's worked out is Cuba, and that seems more due to the excellence of Cuba itself and Castro. . . ."Here's lookin' at you, kid! (Useful idiot. . ..)"

Why do some people (DU'ers too) think that Communism is the worst? I hate being serious on a DUFU, but the fundamental reason why Communism doesn't work is that it ignores the fundamental nature of people. By making individuals subordinate to the artifical construct of the state, it removes the incentives for applying oneself to improving and producing.
In their fairy-tale socialist utopia, everyone is an artist or scientist. But who grows the food? Who volunteers to haul garbage if not to earn money to feed their family? In a society where no person is responsible for themselves, then how can the collective group be responsible for any of the individuals?

Especially if you Jimmy Carter their to certify all your elections. Then no one can doubt your legitimacy.

"The only place I can think of that it's worked out is Cuba, and that seems more due to the excellence of Cuba itself and Castro than to any theoretical quality in Communism." Communism WORKED in Cuba?!?!?!?!?
Now THAT is the best kept secret in the world! Has the IDIOT who pronounced that ever seen pictures of Cuba that were taken recently?
What should be their first clue is that any hurricane that decimates Cuba only does about $29.48 in damage!

I saw this thread earlier and was going to post it over at CU, but didn't because it was so long. I knew you would notice it though, PJ. :) We all knew DU supported Communism and this proves it.

This is exactly the same DUmmie topic that got me tombstoned a couple months ago.
I pointed out that Communist leaders were responsible for roughly 100 million deaths and they deleted my post and banned me.

We've been a plutocracy for some time now...Call me ignorant, but what the "H" is this "plutocracy" they speak of? Some government run by Mickey Mouse's dog, or a puppet government with the leader living on the 9th planet of our solar system?
Have them ask people who lived and worked in the late 40s-80s. Many of them were shocked when reagan's policies started dismantling the stable way of life they all grew up with.
I guess once the labor unions outgrew their usefulness, we were supposed to continue them? In that case, where are all the factories that make horse-drawn wagons (outside of PA Amish country), ice boxes, kerosene lanterns, etc.? The only reason I belong to a union is because IT IS MANDATORY. I'll also bet that if union membership wasn't mandatory for some jobs, there would be no unions.....
(Aren't unions just the most wonderful things. They have done wonders for International Harvester, American Motors, US Steel, and now Delphi and General Motors....G-d Bless 'em!)
BTW Top 100?

i find the charms of democracy highly over rated
WHAT?!!
This idiot posts on a website that would not be possible without democracy and has the ant-hill society, braindead, unthinking, herd mentality stupidity to say that he/she/it is not charmed with democracy?
What an ass.

Didn't the commies advocate violent overthrow of the US government? Didn't they actively spy on the US on behalf of Moscow and others?

These people think Cuba has worked out??? Government dictator living in palaces while his people are scraping by in grinding poverty?? While foreigners and government officials have good hospitals while the rest of the masses must buy their own medicines that aren't sold to them unless they have connections, when the masses have to buy their own food and pay to have the hospital linens cleaned?? This is REAL paradise for the masses???
These people have swallowed agit-prop hook, line and sinker.
